09:37 AM ET 05.26 | Indy 500 officials have big plans to turn the sport's most famous race into it's most prestigious one as well. Officials are reportedly looking into making big changes to the race within the next few years. The changes would center mainly on the car itself. "Everybody is so caught up in what the car will look like," Mike Hull, driver Scott Dixon's crew chief, said. "Instead, we should be creating an avenue for car manufacturers to get back in this series with the technology they can provide. We have to have a fresh approach. We can no longer think in a shoe box." Safety issues are always a concern as IndyCar officials flirt with the idea of opening up the race to new engines and chassis formulas.
