Jets trade disgruntled guard
The Jets took a hard line and refused to budge, trading their disgruntled offensive lineman Pete Kendall to the Redskins for a 2008 or 2009 draft pick rather than give him the $1 million raise he was seeking. Kendall, 34, signed a four-year contract last season. After starting 14 games and mentoring the starting center, Mangold, and the starting left tackle, Ferguson, Kendall said he was led to believe by general manager Mike Tannenbaum in a meeting during the off-season that his contract would be reworked.

He's a good player. I wish he went to a different team. This will be interesting to see what pick it is. The Jets have apparently valued that pick at 1 million dollars.

The Jet management could not run a two car parade...They dropped the ball all the way around this mess. They devalued the player to where they will be lucky to get a late second day pick in next years draft ( 6th at best), and showed the players on their team that their word was no good when it came to restructuring contracts in the future for players who did what they asked them to. They asked the guy to take a cut one year and then they would make it right by him the next. Then they treat him like some little kid since July practice begins. The vets on the team will remember that and some will leave someday for teams that show loyalty to their players. It is a two way street.

That's exactly what Campbell needs. For once I'm not banging my head into my computer screen at the Redskins' incompetence.

Kendall signed a four year deal last year and wanted to re-negotiate after one year. Jet management has just set a new precedence for themselves by not caving in to a players demands when still under a Lengthy deal. 'Skins overpay for everyone, Kendall fits in well.

Maybe Kendall can get hit in the thigh and role around "Squill like a pig boy weeeeeee, weeeeee, weeeeee" on the ground like Campbell did when he got hit in the thigh and "not the knee" (against the Steelers this preseason), just like the big babies they both are. He will fit in well with the Redsins.

Renegade Jono, the Skins this off season haven't overpaid anyone. This was a good trade for the Skins. Since they wouldn't overpay Derrick Dockery, who received a 7 yr, 49 million deal from the Bills. All the Skins did with Kendall was give him the extra 1 million he wanted from the Jets.

RenegadeJono ... do your homework. He restructured his deal last time to help out the team with the salary cap, they were going to fix it this year...got it..It does not matter though, the bottom line is the Jets are a weaker team now than they were and the Redskins are a better team than they were before yesterday. That is what it is all about. If I were a jets fan, I would not be happy about the end result. Face it, this is the first time in years the Redskins got the better of anybody in a trade.

50yearfan keeps posting these comments about how veterans will stay away from the Jets because of the mishandling of Kendall. I agree that they mishandled it organizationally, but to cave in the 2nd year of a 4 year contract would handicap them terribly as a precedent. I believe they'll learn from it next time and make sure peons in the organization are wiser in expressing their attitude toward a holdout, but ANYONE in ANY realm of business who signs one contract expecting something different to be executed is NAIVE, and I don't believe Tannenbaum and Mangini intentionally tricked Pete Kendall. The Jets have a very successful record of loyalty, and wins and losses, in the past ten years, and that's what makes a difference in a franchise like the Jets or the Steelers or the Eagles who are able to stay at least on the cusp of quality year after year, unlike the Detroits and the Arizonas and the Raiders who toss their money around with no results.

And Kendall is the latest Jetskin. I prayed this day would come - what a great pickup. Thanks for finally starting to do things right, Snyder.

I think he was aiming for the chest, but somehow, got a little lower than that, I think the law a gravity took affect that pulled him down and made him hit his thigh. It was still funny though, you have to admit. We made him WEEEEEEEEEEE, WEEEEEEEEEEEE SQUILL LIKE A PIG BOY WEEEEEEEEE, WEEEEEEEEEE, WEEEEEEEEE.

Funny that Pete Kendall did exactly what he wanted to do he whined & whined & got what he wanted. And, hilariously fumbled & through the ball away in the last Jets game just so that he wouldn't have to be the center. He was going to self-destruct the Jets from the OL so they just traded a team-cancer!!

A team cancer? I wouldn't go that far. If what 50yearfan says is true then he has every right to be upset about not getting the money that he deserved. I had not heard of Kendall until he started complaining about being paid. That's never good; however, there's only one team cancer in the league, and that would be T.O. He destroyed every team he's been with: 49ers, Eagles, and soon to be Cowboys. He has a track record that shows facts that he really is a cancer. Pete Kendall a team cancer? I don't think so.

goodegg..You could be right, but the Jets are not as good on the O line now as they were last year. No way did they better themselves in all of this, you cannot run inside without strong guards, and outside without a good pulling guard. He was a starter on that team based on merit. No one ever did outplay him, bad move all around for the Jets.
Still say loyalty is a two way street, I am sure he had friends on the team, and players memories tend to be very short. Only time will tell, but it will not be easy to convince the next guy on that team to take a cut for the good of the team. And it happens all the time in the NFL. They will be forced to keep the guy or let him go for nothing. Would love to hear how Pennington feels about the whole situation, to say nothing of the running backs. The Redskins got a solid NFL guard for almost nothing.
