Changes for NHL goal judges

Visitors to NHL games around the league this season likely will notice a significant change in the stands behind each net. Teams have been granted permission by the league to relocate the two goal judges' positions, opening up some prime seat locations in the loge. But the displaced judges won't be out of work. Most of them will move, plungers in hand, to the press box. If that takes them too far from the action, they'll be positioned elsewhere in the building, perhaps at the Zamboni entrance. Otherwise, the job will fall to referees and replays, and sometimes the scrutiny of the Toronto-based "war room" that pipes in telecasts of the games.

So what's the point of having goal judges? Just use the replay and get rid of them!

the way the owners try to bleed money out of the fans, i can't believe they waste prime space on goal judges. Any goals are called by refs or video replays now, so the goal judge has no purpose in todays nhl

We need some replay judges that actually can SEE... They almost cost Carolina a championship!!!!!!

lol goal judges. what a joke!

I know you all think goal judges are a joke, but think of all the goals scored on rushes that the refs don't get back in time for. If they move the goal judges you can expect 10 to 15 replay reviews a game, which will slow the games down quite a bit. Personally, I think this is a terrible idea. This is one of those moves that sounds good until you put it into action and actually see what the affect is.

What's the point of having goal judges anyway? Their view is usually obstructed by the referee's rear end and/or players anyway and, at least a third of the building can see when there is a puck in the net .

while I held the same sentiments as Whiteice on this matter, I was corrected recently, when it was released that they had secretely, without any fanfare made this very move for all of the games during the Stanley Cup Finals last year. I hadn't noticed, and I'm sure 99% of the people watching didn't either. When I found that out, I was sold. BIG money seats for the teams that move those guys from now on....

If any of you watched the playoffs this year, this article is irrelevant because the Toronto 'War Room' still messed up most of the calls.
