Paterno not close to retiring

Joe Paterno being asked when he's going to retire has become one of the sporting world's stock questions. At 80 years of age, and having bounced back strongly from a broken leg and severe knee injury suffered in a sideline collision last November in Wisconsin, Paterno is not looking to get out.

Good news for those with stock in Depends... sorry I couldn't help that one.

He'll die out there and I hope its not during the game I'm watching.

August 26, 2007  02:54 PM ET

Yeah badgers, your team nearly killed him last year, why not go finish the job this year? lol

August 26, 2007  04:09 PM ET

He will die as the head coach of that team. It's like being the Pope.

Joe Pa shld go......Penn State and Nebraska havent been relevant in a while.....New blood needs to come in and coach and spice things up.....The game is passing him by.......

August 26, 2007  05:37 PM ET

Every1 is saying Michigan wins Big Ten......Wisconsin has the D to squash Wolverines' offense.....But the Badgers O is only ?.....Wisconsin goes 11-1 and wins Big Ten, losing to a lesser team but in running for major BCS bowl.....

I think he is a selfish old man that needs to leave that team to a younger man. I really can't understand the University's fear of letting him go or putting him on a retirement tour. He is good, but what, ONE national title in a million years. He can be replaced.

August 26, 2007  09:51 PM ET

To Eagle!!

Joe Pa has 2 National titles: 1982, 1986

He should have had 2 more. 1994 for sure.

August 27, 2007  02:18 AM ET

To Abi...thanks for setting the record straight. Paterno and Penn State were cheated out of a National title when Nebraska was handed a very un-earned title....what a coincidence...Tom Osborne's last year at Nebraska. Yeah, let's never settle the National Championship on the field...let's allow politics to rule the day....

August 27, 2007  02:19 AM ET

I think Joe Pa wants to die on the side-lines.

August 27, 2007  09:03 AM ET

No man can replace Joe Pat. He'd be happy to be buried under the stadium if he could.

I do feel bad for the man who has to replace him when that time comes.

Wisky does not have the D to squash Michigan's Offense. The Buckeyes D last year was much better then the Badgers D and Michigan took advantage of it (however the buckeyes took more advantage of Michigan's)

Michigan raped the Badgers last year. Michigan's offense is much stronger from last year. Wisky will at best go 11-1 but will not win the Big 10. They more then likely will go 10-2 and not losing to a lesser Big 10 team but to Michigan and tOSU.

not close to retiring? the odds of him even living another 5 yrs is probaly 50%

August 29, 2007  04:20 PM ET

Who gives a damn, let the man coach. yea he had some bad years but the Lions are bouncing back. If Joe wants to stay till he's 100 then thats whats going to happen.

My opinions exactly on Brett Favre for all you Brett haters. That was a pretty gruesome injury Joe Pa encountered last year. I hope is recovery went well. I can't believe he came back onto the field just after the injury to continue coaching. Crazy basterd. Arguably one of the best coaches in college football history.
