A talent evaluator who watched Heat first-rounder Daequan Cook in summer league said he must improve his defense, footwork and balance on his shot and doubts he'll contribute a lot as a rookie. But Pat Riley said Cook has made ''great strides this summer. Whether or not he cracks the rotation will be up to him.''

Bust.

August 26, 2007  10:27 AM ET

Nah....Not this year......

August 26, 2007  10:35 AM ET

If this kid ever pulls his head out and even tries to play defense, he will be an above average NBA player for a decade.

lol its bcuz everyone hates ohiostate GO BLUE

August 26, 2007  11:26 AM ET

He would have been a lottery pick if he would have went back to Ohio St for 1 more yr.

August 26, 2007  01:00 PM ET

haha, daequan cook is one of those guys whom you see tagged with

Needs to Improve: All-around basketball skills

will he contribute behind dwyane wade and dorell wright this year? i wouldnt even trust this guy to bring my shoes to the game for me.

miami might have the worst gms in all of sports. the dolphins pass on brees, culpeper and brady for green and screw up in the draft...again! and the heat keep drafting very young potential guys who don't pan out (exeptions wade and butler) which i still don't understand because riley refuses to play young guys.

August 26, 2007  02:11 PM ET

i still don't understand why the heat got this guy intead of almond? almond is more polished, can score, and is a SF, which the heat need. why did riely draft this guy when he knows full well he will never play him.

August 26, 2007  02:42 PM ET

Only if Daequan can cook.

August 26, 2007  02:49 PM ET

bring back glen rice!!!!!!! why not?unless he doesnt want to play anymore.

August 26, 2007  03:33 PM ET

Why not sign Scottie Pippen too?

Any other guys collecting social security they can sign?

August 26, 2007  03:55 PM ET

In a word: No.

August 26, 2007  04:48 PM ET

Picks are dice role anyway unless you get a high pick. So why not take a risk on this guy. Just hope the Miami night life don't take him in because its hard coming from Columbus Ohio with a nonexistant night life to a city that never sleeps.

Skinner, let's finish the Posey and GS throwdown u loser.....

August 26, 2007  06:56 PM ET

Hate to burst the bubble for heat fans, but don't be surprised if they don't make playoffs this season. Almost ALL eastern teams made improvements (some HUGE), and heat mostly remain status quo (other than losing a good defender in Posey). Shaq is another year older (and slower), JWil ain't gonna improve anymore, Wade HAS to be healthy all 80 games AND average big numbers across the board for them to stand a chance....ofcourse to nullify the negative numbers from 'toine and smush......Smush?? yeah heats BIGGEST offseason signing!! what a joke!!!

August 26, 2007  07:00 PM ET

The offseason is not done yet. Fan Nation stop talking season has not started yet.

August 26, 2007  08:39 PM ET

Best draft pick ever. What?

August 27, 2007  10:00 AM ET

Roxalot you have to be kidding. No way you trade Pietrius for Posey and a pick. And I'm sure Miami tried it. So I think if GS agrees with me I think you should give it up.

August 27, 2007  05:37 PM ET

what happened to the pietrius rumors?just another hoax story by the miami herald?
