Signs that Ducks stars won't retire?

Anaheim general manager Brian Burke awaits word on whether the esteemed likes of Teemu Selanne and/or Scott Niedermayer will suit up for the Cup-defending Ducks. Both Selanne and Niedermayer have enrolled their children in area schools for the upcoming academic year; perhaps that's a harbinger of good news for the Ducks, or perhaps it's just a couple more multimillionaires who feel SoCal isn't a bad place to spend their dough and live out their dotage.

Just retire!

August 26, 2007  02:04 PM ET

Both have nothing else to prove and if they do play, it'll be for the straight purpose of winning another cup. As for their salaries, assuming that their intention is for another ring then they might offer discounts knowing that the ducks are right up the roof in cap space.

-However, just imagine the straggle hold-like efficiency their already stacked defence will place if Niedemayer comes back or the super firepower their offence will generate if Selanne returns OR BOTH!! This team is already the Bad**** of the west. If those 2 return, This team will be considered and ascended form of the team that won it all last year. THAT"S NOT A GOOD THING for the other 29 teams.

niedermayer is not a free agent, and still has a contract, zero, therefore he cannot give a "hometown discount" or paycut.

one more year

The Ducks have no chance of repeating. Very few ever do, and most don't usually come close the following year. It's players, injuries and momentum that win the Cup and in a league with more parity now, it's very unlikely you'll see repeat champs.

one more year

.....and right you are poppap527....
forgot that scotty still has a contract in place! Ok so scratch about 75% of my post. Thank's for reminder!... jerk... j/k *hehehehe*

God I wish they would cut the goaltending equipment way back. Clearly there's a problem when Giguere is considered a good goalie!! LMAO!

August 27, 2007  08:42 AM ET

I agree, big time, Avsfan - and that doesn't happen too much for a Wings fan, haha. But Giguere's equipment is just out of control. Even if it IS regulation, than the regs need to be dropped, pure and simple. MArty Brodeur isn't that bulked up, nor are Luongo, or Turco, or Hasek...how does he get away with it? Getting amped that the season is coming up!

August 27, 2007  08:46 AM ET

Avs Fan..if i remmember...Roy's Pads Werent All That Small Either.Compared to Those he Had in MTL in 86..LOL

Scott is signed for another 2 years i do believe if not 3
But burke has to Make a trade if he wants either One
Giving Tuzzi 4 million a Year wasnt the Smartest move he;s Done

As a Flyers Fan...if those 2 Come Back,,,,Watch Out
...as much as it hurt me to Say....No One in East Can Touch them..
Maybe The penguins...if they get some Good D and Goalie

Teemu ..Pronger,,,Neidermayer..Scheinder....Beauchemin...Giguere
Plus Bobby Ryan added to that Young Lineup .
29 Gm's Praying Day & night that those 2 retire as Soon as Posible
Cause if they Come Back...Start Planning That Parade again in Ana...

Ana & pitts will Fight for the Cup for the next 5 Years Easy
Both Teams Are so Loaded it;s a Joke (pitts Won the Lottery 5 years Straight..Fleury..The KId..stall ..Angelo...Malkin)
Ana is just as Loaded if Not More..

The rest Of us Might be Left watching ...While theses two Teams Destroy the rest of the League for the next Decade

August 27, 2007  03:33 PM ET

SoxfanNB, I like your line of thinking about the Ducks and Penguins. The Ducks have probably the best D in the league and the Penguins have a great offense. I have to give my Ducks the advantage here, with their veterans, shutdown D and championship experience. I would love to see a Ducks and Penguins final (young stars Crosby and Getzlaf). Watch out if Selanne and/or S. Niedermayer come back. The Ducks are a great team even without them, and if one or both come back, the other teams need to bow down in submission to their master!

August 27, 2007  03:40 PM ET

Here's hoping that Teemu comes back, but the Ducks can't fit him under the cap. Then he can go to Dallas and play with a bunch of his countrymen. Yeah, that'd be awesome.

August 27, 2007  06:40 PM ET

Frankly I'm surprised neither one has announced their final intentions.

August 27, 2007  06:54 PM ET

Neither one of these Ducks stars are leaving. These days everybody announces a year in advance so they can get a big sweepstakes buildup for their services and I havent heard anything on the grapevine that that is happening.
