All signs are pointing to Charlie Frye starting the opener against Pittsburgh, but rookie Brady Quinn is progressing quicker than anticipated. Browns General Manager Phil Savage reiterated Saturday night that it would be unrealistic for Quinn to be ready to start by Sept. 9, especially considering his 11-day holdout.

I sense a coin toss.

August 27, 2007  08:20 AM ET

Frye is the winner, with Dorsey second, and Quinn starting the season as the third opition. Anderson trade bait.

August 27, 2007  08:56 AM ET

come on Romeo, be different this time.......why not use 'rock, paper, scissors' instead? LOL

August 27, 2007  09:02 AM ET

It's got to be Frye, we can't handle another Couch fiasco-throwing the rook in before he's ready. Yeah, he looks good, but how would he look running for his life against the Ravens and Steelers?

August 27, 2007  09:24 AM ET

Frye, Quinn & Anderson. Dorsey is the 4th man out considering he got no play time last game. I see Quinn somewhere in Week5-7.

August 27, 2007  09:30 AM ET

I'm with the rest of you let Frye get eaten alive at the beginning of the season against some tough defenses and let Quinn get more time in on the playbook. Bring him in gently and avoid a Carr/Couch/etc situation.

Quinn is CLEARLY the most talented and capable QB on our roster. However, that having been said, I am a proponent of easing him into the starting role. We have to start Frye in game one. However, I think Quinn has done enough to warrant the 3rd, or even 2nd, spot. Anderson is the odd man out. Maybe Atlanta would be interested!

The future is bright at the QB position in Cleveland...if we bring Quinn along properly. The bottom line is that it is going to be a long season. Let's not destroy Quinn's confidence in the first 1-2 games he plays in. Let's ease him in, have him starting somewhere between game 8-12, and know that it is his team moving forward.

Frye has been on league for a minute now, same for Anderson and they have not thrown a touchdown yet on preseason??? Hello!! Let the rookie play, look what happen to us last year when bum Kerry Collins started for us.. 0-4 in the first 4 games, then Vince came and saved the day for us... Frye & Anderson= GARBAGE!!!

August 27, 2007  10:15 AM ET

Who cares??? Cleveland sucks and Pittsburgh will destroy them no matter who they have as QB.

August 27, 2007  10:26 AM ET

Quinn looked better than I thought he would. It is just preseason, but it wasnt bad.

August 27, 2007  10:36 AM ET

If Brady Quinn is the QB I think he is........then the Browns will win a little this season.....and in the next two years if they fix holes in the Defense.....they could make the playoffs. Laugh all you want. But when it happens........I will let you know.

Schaub is looking a whole lot BETTER than I thought He was!!! Go TEXANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That ones for you Chaz.....I see 6-10.

August 27, 2007  10:38 AM ET

How do you see it,

August 27, 2007  10:43 AM ET

Me and you both. I wasnt sold on the guy, but he looks pretty darn good. And you got those numbers backwards. 10-6.

August 27, 2007  11:17 AM ET

Frye is the short term answer to try to win games, Quinn is the obvious long term solution...

...and as for the Titans homer above....

Vince Young came in and saved the day??? Did he do it with his 66.7 Qb rating, or the sub 52% pass completion percentage? Maybe it was his 12-13 TD-INT ratio? No?? His twelve fumbles then?

the Titans owe their second half run less to the much over-hyped heroics of mediocre quarterback Vince Young, than they do to several amazing kicks by Rod Bironas, and the sudden resurgence of Halfback Travis Henry.

But then most people will have that figured out by the end of the year.

QUINN IS A TOTAL BUST. JAMARCUS IS THE REAL DEAL, AND YOU'LL ALL SEE

I'm not hopping on the Quinn bandwagon just yet. All I've seen so far is some garbage time against third stringers at the end of preseason games.

That being said, he showed more during those garbage minutes than I thought he would. Here's to hoping you prove my pre-judging comments back during the draft wrong, Brady.

August 27, 2007  12:28 PM ET

Why is Cleveland's GM chiming in on starting roles? Whenever a GM starts meddling in coaching, disaster almost always ensues (see "Davis, Al"). That said, the Browns will likely lose with whomever they start at QB. If they go with Frye, the fans will start chanting "Quinn, Quinn, Quinn..." from Frye's first bad pass. That will destroy Frye's confidence. By starting Quinn, they'll A) get the fans to shut up, and B) sell more jerseys and boost the scalping prices of tickets. So I say let Frye get beaten up by the Steelers in the first half (halftime score of 28-7, with the sole Cleveland TD scored by the defense), then bring in Quinn. He'll play well in a losing effort as the Steelers let up in the second half. Final score 38-17.

I heard Jamarcus has some Bulls he's been training. Supposed to go after BQ at first sight. BQ will lead the Browns by wk. 4.

August 27, 2007  02:18 PM ET

Quinn is the starter. The Browns are just punishing him for his holdout.

August 27, 2007  04:08 PM ET

Brady Quinn should be the starter they didn't draft him to sit him!! Maybe the Browns wanted play him as much b/c then his contract dollars might escalate sooner vs. if he only plays a certain % of the plays the season this may help the Browns as far as whether the 5yr contract could or would be cut down to being only a 4 yr contract?? I don't know that's just something to think about??
