Stanford AD backs Harbaugh
Stanford Athletic Director Bob Bowlsby said Jim Harbaugh is not an off-the-cuff guy, nor is he a coach who says things to draw flak to himself in order to deflect it from his players. "I think Jim thinks about the things before he says them," Bowlsby said. "And I also think he thinks both he and his team will get enough scrutiny from a variety of sources."

the AD seems to "THINK" alot himself....judging by his comments he seems to like that word...
As for backing him? The TRUTH predicts that Stanford will want to back harbaugh into a bathroom stall and flush him after 2 years.

"The only goal, No. 1, is to graduate players with meaningful degrees. And, No. 2 is to win. Those are the only goals I have." This guy is Dooche #1.
As if it's the same thing to get students through programs at Stanford. Please. Also, if I'm the AD and I hear he, as coach, has the No. 1 goal of getting students through school - something that really is the business of their teachers and themselves - I'm thinking, "jezzus, what a loser. His goal as coach should be to establish a worthwhile, winning footbal program; he should cooperate all he can to help students get through academically, but he's a football coach and he should be about football. That's why we hired the dooche."

Of course the AD is going to back him. Stanford has NEVER had this much press before. Stanford wants a football program, not a joke of a football program. Kids are now paying attention to Stanford and saying, "I want to meet Harbaugh." It's just a shame that Harbaugh would throw his alma mater under the bus to achieve this. And thus, that's why Harbaugh has always been known to be a jerk.

The real question is if Stanford starts to attract more high caliber players, will the admissions board start to cut corner to let these kids in? IOW, will Harbaugh end up looking like the fool he is when his own school starts to ease up on it's academic standards to get kids they normally wouldn't accept to help the football program?

The Truth,
As much as I am displeased by Harbaugh's low blow tactics and believe he's a jerk of a person, I do believe he is a good coach and will succeed at Stanford.

The only thing that Harbaugh did, was that he did not avoid using his own alma matter as his embellished example to the press about some of the problems that he feels exist in the oxymoron that is "College Football". There isn't a single school - Stanford included - that can offer every single one of its programs up to all of the athletes on their football team. The time and energy required to play D1 football is just too great in most instances. And the issue about admission standards is insane. If the NCAA cared they would simply set the standard that every school and athlete had to adhere to at a high level. But of course they don't.
Harbaugh has always had a big mouth on him (Guaranteed victory over Ohio State anybody?) and that mouth has always made him headlines - which is what he's always been after. So here he goes again. Fine.
He and his family know a thing or two about college football and he is a decent coach that has just landed a great opportunity for himself - probably one that even he didn't expect to get at this stage in his career.
So not quite knowing how to take it all in, his mouth started going off by instinct... big deal.
He'll make that program into a .500-ish program with a good year here and there, and that's pretty much exactly what Stanford wants - consistently better students and a "competitive" program. I think Stanford made a great hire. And I'm still proud to remember him as a Wolverine.
