O.J. Mayo is coming back to USC for his sophomore season. Or maybe not. The heralded freshman guard said Tuesday afternoon when he met with the media at Heritage Hall that he intended to return for a second year of college unless he was guaranteed to become a lottery pick in the NBA draft -- a proposition that for now is considered likely.

COLOR ME SHOCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

August 29, 2007  08:56 AM ET

This kid has been goin pro since 6th grade....

August 29, 2007  09:23 AM ET

Why is this news now? He hasn't even started his Frosh year and now we are wondering if he is coming back for his Sophmore year? His play this year will dictate what he does at year's end. The scouts will absolutely be watching him day by day so he will know!

There's too much **** happening at USC: too many distractions. If the team can put all this **** behind it and win out, they deserve to be acclaimed as No. 1.

I was waiting for the Fannation "No Duh" story for the day and here it is.

August 29, 2007  10:10 AM ET

BauerStar33 ---- I was wondering the same thing.

August 29, 2007  10:25 AM ET

Watson this is a Basketball story, which has nothing to do with the Football team and where they're ranked or how they will play.

August 29, 2007  10:27 AM ET

Its not really news, in Ohio we have known that Mayo has wanted to go pro and has ahad the ability to do so for a long time...that for me is why its not a schocker, if there wasnt a rule he would already be there..

August 29, 2007  12:34 PM ET

Even Coach Floyd told the press he's one and done. So let it go already.

August 29, 2007  02:27 PM ET

..maybe the 8th grader who committed will jump to the league early..you know the Pac10 to replace miracle whip..i mean mayo..

August 29, 2007  04:00 PM ET

unrelated to the story but i hope people saw him throwing the ball into the stands after he dunked in his high school championship with a minute left, this kid has no class, lebron, melo, and kobe will eat him for lunch, i hope he turns pro for that reason

August 29, 2007  04:59 PM ET

I'm glad he picked USC over K-State any team would be lucky to have him, until he goes T.O. and ruins a good team with great talent.

August 29, 2007  08:17 PM ET

bauer definitely has the most insightful comment here. Its not a question right now, it will be answered by his play during the season. period. If he sucks and averages like 8ppg and 5rpg then theres no way hes going pro. he'll wait til he has a 15ppg and 7rpg season then turn pro.

August 29, 2007  10:22 PM ET

he was probably gone after one season anyway

August 30, 2007  01:06 AM ET

What?!?!? OJ Mayo doesn't want to play for 4 years and walk with his fellow classmates on graduation day. Gosh darn it i'm shocked.

August 30, 2007  08:09 PM ET

One year of OJ Mayo and 5 years of NCAA sanctions. I don't think the teflon transfers from football to basketball at $C.

September 3, 2007  07:07 PM ET

Hey, if I were a lottery pick I'd leave, and I can't play ball.

I just hope the NCAA posse doesn't show up on campus after Mayo's gone.

September 6, 2007  08:46 AM ET

I've seen this kid play one game on TV and he wasn't impressive. I heard he has all the physical abilities but many questions his character. The kid Memphis signed Derrick Rose is better in my opinion. Rose is a 6'4'' combo guard that can do it all.

Is it just me or does Mayo look like he's 27 years old?

September 6, 2007  05:41 PM ET

That guy looks like he's 35. WTF? How many years did he repeat a grade?

O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D! He wishes he was Eric Gordon. EG is a beast. He has reminded me of a player who played both the one and the two who came out of Indianapolis fifty years ago.
