Red Sox are burning out Bard

07:09 AM ET 06.23 | The Red Sox seemed to have turned their season around, and while Daniel Bard's work out of the bullpen has served as a major factor, the team may be leaning on him too hard. In Bard's last 15 appearances, the Red Sox are a sterling 14-1, the only loss coming in a ninth-inning meltdown at Cleveland. That run coincides -- to the day -- with a period during which the Red Sox have gone 24-8. A word of caution: Bard is tied for the American League lead in appearances and is on pace to pitch in 80 games. That number is too high. Whether it be through the resurgence of [Hideki] Okajima (five consecutive scoreless appearances) or the addition of bullpen arm, the Red Sox need relief help.
