Star QB to visit Mountaineers

Lake Worth, Fla., quarterback Star Jackson is taking one more weekend to ponder a decision he said he already has made. He is down to Alabama, Auburn and a visit to West Virginia before announcing his decision Tuesday. Jackson has offered a few hints. First off, Alabama and West Virginia are the only schools Jackson has tabbed for official visits. That decision, however, was made before this weekend's trip to see the Mountaineers.

August 31, 2007  01:07 PM ET

who wants to play for saban?

August 31, 2007  03:12 PM ET

hes goin to bama. duhhh.
hmmmm alabama OR west virginia.
one of the best coaches in the country that has an NC win OR rich rodriguez (alabama's last resort in the coach search).
a tradition rich program that has more SEC titles than anyone OR west virginia
SEC OR big east
one of the wealthiest programs in the country (if not THE wealthiest) OR west virginia

i think anyone with half a brain would pick alabama over west virginia. and if star doesnt have half a brain, then we dont want him anyways.

August 31, 2007  03:31 PM ET

LMAO!!! Alabama isn't all that.. Why do you think Coach Rod turned them down??
After visiting Mountaineer Field this weekend and experiencing the atmosphere.. He'll pick WVU hands down.

August 31, 2007  04:15 PM ET

He is going to go to WVU. He fits the WVU system alot better than Alabama.

August 31, 2007  04:27 PM ET

The only thing I could see keeping him in the south is it's closer to home. And I don't know the QB situation at Alabama, but at WVU it's pretty much locked up for the next three years. Pat White is a junior and he will play two more years. Jarrett Brown will start the next year as a senior, and they have a highly recruited true freshman that may start the next year. So if the kid wants to play right away he may chose Alabama.

August 31, 2007  04:29 PM ET

And for the idoit that said it is a no brainer to chose Alabama over WVU it would be a no brainer to go to WVU if he wants to win and challenge for a national title. Alabama is a good 2 to 3 years away from that,(and that isn't promised) while WVU is there right now.

August 31, 2007  04:29 PM ET

Why do you think Rodriquez chose WVU over Alabama.

August 31, 2007  04:41 PM ET

YEAH, WHAT VINCE SAID!!!!

August 31, 2007  05:03 PM ET

Bama fans must be smoking something strong.

I agree with vince. If your a coach you will ago anywhere but the Pink Tide. Unless you want to waste 3 yrs going to the toilet, before thinking about going to an a reall bowl game.

P.S. Just cause you're in the SEC conference doesn't make you good, HeII, Vanderbilt and the Mississippi State are in the SEC and they are to joke of team.

Oh and Bama was only 2 games from being dead last in their conference anyways.

August 31, 2007  10:11 PM ET

Bama fans aren't smoking ... they're just stuck in the seventies ...

August 31, 2007  11:42 PM ET

Bama sucks balls

August 31, 2007  11:57 PM ET

BIG HAIRY ONES!!

September 1, 2007  12:57 AM ET

Looks like this kid knows what he's doing. here are some excerpts from the article this story came from:

As Lake Worth coach Errick Lowe said, "It's looking pretty good right now for Alabama."

At 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, Jackson is a dual-threat quarterback who reportedly runs a 4.5 40. Should he formally commit to Alabama, he would make 18 expected signees. Of those, 11 would be rated four stars or higher on the five-star scale used by Rivals.com.

"Big things are happening at Alabama," said Jackson, who added, "I'm just glad to get (the decision) out of the way, to not think about it during the season."

ahhh.
i cant wait to see our stellar offense hang triple digits on western carolina tomorrow.
im out.

September 1, 2007  08:36 AM ET

"one of the wealthiest programs in the country (if not THE wealthiest) OR west virginia." Does this mean to insinuate that 'bama would be willing to pay for his services? Given their recent track record, it would not surprise me at all.

This kid's stock has been rising extremely fast.

To say that the kid would be dumb to go WVU over Bama is hilarious. Rodriguez has built a great program, and has proven that the QB will be put into a position to put big numbers. Also, they play in an easier conference, and therefore have an easier rode to the BCS.

You can be a part of a rebuilding process in Bama, or you can win NOW in West Virginia.
