New Celtic to appeal suspension

08:31 AM ET 09.01 | The NBA suspended James Posey for the first game of the season yesterday, but, according to his agent, the newest Celtic still could be in uniform for the Nov. 2 opener against Washington. Posey was penalized for pleading no contest to a charge of reckless driving stemming from an April 9 arrest in Miami Beach on a drunken driving charge. He agreed to a lesser charge two weeks ago. Unable to discipline Posey while he was a free agent, the league acted after he signed with the Celtics last month. Agent Mark Bartelstein said his client will appeal the ruling because the plea was designed entirely to get the matter adjudicated so that Posey could seek a new team without the uncertainty of an unresolved legal situation.

I don't blame him for appealing this. This smacks of the N.B.A. reaching for the guise of a tough stance. The man clearly didn't want this to be an issue for himself, his new team or the league and he still gets punished? Sounds like B.S. to me.

NETS GM made huge mistake not doing a sign-and trade deal for Posey...Plays strong D and then they could trade jefferson which they should do quickly

No contest doesn't mean I didn't do it. Agreeing to a lesser charge means you did something you weren't supposed to do. The league is correct in slapping his hand.

A lot of trouble just for Posey. I don't think this guy is even worth the trouble with what the Celt's acquired in the off-season.

Come on folks! This situation was obviously not a deal breaker for the Celts, so why make it out to be more than it is. Technically speaking, the incident happened while he wasn't in fact an N.B.A. player. The N.B.A. waited until he signed with the Celtics to come up with this ham-handed excuse for discipline. I'll admit that maybe this was not the best way to handle the situation, which by all accounts shouldn't have been an issue in the first place.

Appeal denied! Back to Boston, scum! Have fun serving your suspension!
If only Stern would say that. Then I would respect him a little more.

Funny how Mr. (All-Knowing) David Stern w/his cocky tone tries to blame everyone else for this referee scandal & everyone who even remotely knows anything about sports knows its all entertainment & is rigged in some way. And why shouldn't Stern be fined or suspended for hiring these "rogue criminal officials" who have corrupted his sport. Stern isn't a very good judge of character himself and if he was Donahey & Joey Crawford wouldn't be in his league. Crawford has already showed that he is biased against the Spurs & Tim Duncan!!
