Why Jones makes sense for Irish

10:21 AM ET 09.01 | Expect Demetrius Jones to be dubbed the successor to Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn, and not just because his high school coach has intimated as much. Starting Jones makes the most sense if the three-way quarterback competition was as tight as Weis claimed it to be. Jones is the most athletic of the three, and his ability to move the chains with his feet could lend consistency to a Kelly-green-behind-the-ears unit, particularly against a veteran Georgia Tech defense that relishes blitzing quarterbacks, especially inexperienced ones.

Seriously SI...QUIT SHOVING THIS MEANINGLESS STORY DOWN OUR THROATS!!!!! NOBODY CARES WHO THE IRISH WILL START AT QB!!!

The bottom line is they will be terrible this season no matter who starts.

September 1, 2007  11:16 AM ET

I care who starts a QB....Whats fair is fair..That kid from California did'nt shine too brightly during the spring game...if Jones or the kid Evan don't start, I will personally cut off Weis's greasy cheeseburger supply....The defense is lookin nice and confident...as they should, that new D-coordinator has those boys humpin....

September 1, 2007  11:32 AM ET

8-4 this year with Williams, 5-7 or 6-6 if Clausen starts......

September 1, 2007  11:44 AM ET

8-4 with Williams? What color is the sky in your world?

September 1, 2007  12:19 PM ET

the irish will be fine this year. won't be BCS bound but they'll be better than people think.

September 1, 2007  12:20 PM ET

So what does this mean for the years to come? If Clausen is such a super prospect then he needs to be getting the experience for later years when the Irish team is a legitimate title contender.

September 1, 2007  12:30 PM ET

Does it matter who starts? The Irish are going to lose anyways!

Talk about missing the boat SI. It is nice to have a top 25 scorebaord but not having the Irish game highlighted when you click scores and making a person have to perform extra clicks to find out is plain stupid. Play to your fans you dorks.
