Signs point to Cavs' return

Look for Sasha Pavlovic and Anderson Varejao to re-sign with the Cavs. The sign-and-trade options for both have pretty much dried up, so both should return. It's more likely that Pavlovic will sign a longer deal than Varejao, who might end up with a qualifying offer for a year that will allow him to seek the big bucks next offseason.

Who cares??? The East just got stronger in Boston, NJ and NY.....They will be lucky to mak it to the East semis next year.....

September 2, 2007  11:16 AM ET

This is good but without a point guard the Cavs will fail to repeat .

September 2, 2007  11:50 AM ET

The Cavs made it to the NBA finals with a 1 man wrecking crew that is LeBron because they have one thing that most underdogs (in other words, inferior line up) have, "the element of surprise".

Next season with practically no upgrades, no more surprises.

September 2, 2007  11:53 AM ET

No doubt. I don't think there's any player in the league who impacts his team like Lebron, but unfortunately the cavs upper management refuses to give him a team to carry. They're more like an anvil chained around his ankles, and he can still dunk.

September 2, 2007  01:13 PM ET

As a Cavs fan, I don't know what to say about Cleveland's front office. I do know that whatever it would be, it wouldn't be good.

September 2, 2007  02:03 PM ET

Considering that the G.M. didn't even bother negotiating with them, because he knew there was no chance they were going to leave, I say to hell with this B.S. story.

September 2, 2007  05:00 PM ET

The Cavs have tremendoud room for growth. Aside from getting another big man to spell Z (or whoever will play center), the Cavs should measure up strong against their Eastern division counterparts

September 2, 2007  05:14 PM ET

If the go through with this deal they will be a force in the East, and beat the Celtics. :)

September 2, 2007  06:56 PM ET

AaronSteven's ...are you really that racist? I mean come on man, there's no need to bring race into this. This article had nothing to do with other races anyway, it's not necessary to bring them into it, did you get beat up as a child by one black man or something?

September 2, 2007  07:14 PM ET

aaronstevens was deprived of attention as a child......He says stupid stuff to prove he is a monkey's butt.....Or he is inbred......LOL

September 2, 2007  10:16 PM ET

The Cavs will once again do the same thing they've done for the last 3 years. They'll make the playoffs, but LeBron won't be able to take them past the 1ST round this time. What they need is a quality point guard. I can't figure out why they can't seem to recognize it. I've almost given up on them. This would be a completely different team if they had drafted Jameer Nelson when they had the chance. Nothing good is going to happen as long as they are content to wait for the occassional offensive contrbution from Eric Snow.

September 2, 2007  10:23 PM ET

They need a true point guard and yes they will not get to the finals next year cuz of the East's upgrade!!!

September 3, 2007  02:16 AM ET

If I read this correctly, the article actually suggests Anderson Varejeo will wait until next year to sign for "big bucks next off-season".......uhm, and who might that stupid team be ? Big guy, works hard, hustles, can't throw the ball in the ocean from a helicopter ! Sounds like a future Heat signing !

September 3, 2007  02:21 AM ET

Hllywd, your comments are so on the money ! Add a good (not great) point guard, and the Cavs make it back to the big dance again next year. Eric Snow is another year older, another year slower now. Age catches everyone. And I just don't believe Daniel Gibson has what it takes at this point to get the Cavs where they need to go.

September 3, 2007  09:19 AM ET

if lebron's jumper looks as good as it's looked this summer, the cavs have a decent enough chance at making the finals again. as much as the cavs are a "one man show," they play excellent team defense and they are one of the best rebounding teams in the league.

September 3, 2007  09:21 AM ET

if lebron's jumper looks as good as it has looked this summer, the cavs have a pretty good shot at returning to the nba finals. as much as they're a
"one man team" on offense, they're one of the best teams in the league at both team defense and at rebounding.

September 3, 2007  04:37 PM ET

U CANT PUT EAST AND STRONGER IN THE SAME SENTENCE....IT JUSTDOESNT GO TOGETHER, EVERYONE KNOWS THE WEST IS THE STRONGER CONFERENCE AND I AM WILLING TO BET, EVEN WITH ROSTER MOVES TO NJ, NEWYORK, AND BOSTON, NEITHER 1 OF THOSE TEAMS COULD MATCH UP WITH THE WESTERN CONFERENCES 6, 7, OR 8 SEED. THE EASTERN CONFERENCES HOPE STILL RELIES WITH DETROIT....AND THIS TEAM IS JUST NOT THE PISTONS OF OLD. LOOK FOR THE WEST TO WIN THE NEXT 2 YEARS FOR SURE.

September 4, 2007  03:41 AM ET

These two guys are great role players for this team...BUT they should really think about the westcoast....we all know the eastern conference is nothing even with boston transactions..you can make the playoffs with a record below .500....they need to make more adjustments...the spurs look like they wasn't even trying in the finals.... what more can i or anybody say... the west is way to strong...the cavs who are now a title contender should really make some bold moves for this organization..
