09:07 AM ET 07.01 | Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge is trying to use Rasheed Wallace's contract in trade talks, a move that would allow the Celtics to keep their midlevel exception, league sources said. Wallace has yet to file retirement papers, so the $6.32 million owed him next season and $6.79 million in 2011-12 would come off a team???s books after Wallace is traded to them. They could do a deal and not take on his money. Ainge is trying to use the Wallace contract to bring back a power forward or center to replace Wallace and the injured Kendrick Perkins.

I heard Rasheed is retiring after getting manhandled by (let me clear my throat); Pau Gasol. Why the hell will another team want him?

Sheed could be a solid mentor for a team with a young PF/C, you know show them how to stay out of the paint, take multiple threes and technicals.
Seriously thou, he'll probably get an offer for Sheed, from the T'wolves or Knicks.

because his salary would drop off once he signs his papers.................6 mil this year and 7 mil next year so they will come off the books.............its called smart basketball im sorry you dont recognize it do the celtics have to give away 2 or 3 first round draft picks for you to see ?

make jokes like that all you want but sheed was once a really quality player. not many people at his position in league history could post up like him and still pop out and hit the three while also being able to play really good defense. just cuz he's a little too emotional most of the time doesnt take away from his skill

Hey, I completely agree. The problem is that Sheed has got too many in the paint miles on him and he's just as happy taking outside shots that are mostly a bit out of his range. He could still make a contribution if he was willing, but I don't see the takers being a championship caliber team and I think if he is picked up by anything less than a top ten team that he will retire.

haha ok good. just had to defend my man sheed cuz even tho he's a headcase, i still like him a lot as a player. also, he is gonna retire, but he told the celtics he wouldnt sign the papers until they trade his contract. believe it or not, he's being helpful and allowing them to move his (technically) expiring contract so if any team wants an expiring contract, the celtics can trade his papers and then he will officially retire

Man that year here and Webber where together here in Detroit was tough. Two great forwards who just didn't have any bang left in them.

that was tough. more so for webber who legit had nothing left to give. even this year sheed gave SOME quality minutes. webber just had nothing left in his knees. gotta respect a guy for trying but im not sure how you wouldnt realize that it's time to hang em up. at least sheed knows that and is doing so while being helpful

Actually if Jackson coaches the Lakers again they should bring in Sheed. Forget all the championships he could go down in History as the Coach who tamed Rodman, Artest and Sheed.

Yeah, they didn't do that bad that year, they just ran out of gas against a younger team. Sure it was nice for Webber to play one season for the team he probably rooted for as a kid, bet it burned when Dumars didn't extend his contract...but that's the way it goes.

History Lesson.....Players say they are retiring all the time. Sometimes they do actually retire and then they make a comeback. Sometimes a sweet offer just falls in their lap and they think what the hell. Or maybe you've never heard of Jordan, Farve or Mario Lemieux.
