07:43 AM ET 07.02 | Amare Stoudemire won't be returning to Phoenix and is leaning towards signing with the New York Knicks, a source close to the power forward tells HOOPSWORLD. The source says that the Suns "came in too low" with their offer and stressed that the Knicks are the new frontrunner to land Stoudemire's services. While no offer has been made, the two sides have begun talks.

How come I get the feeling he is using the knicks to drive his deal up...ala Joe Johnson.....

people will start using the knicks to get better deals and the case of these second tier max guys that may be forcing their team to add the 6th year

Just had dinner w dwadel. Great way to end day 1 of #freeagency although it feels like someone is missing.....

It's a fact Phoenix won't win with Amare given the state of their roster so they have to let him go and I think they've done that. He can go to any team but given what D'Antoni's system did for his career its only natural he has a fondness for it. Joe Johnson is in the same boat and Lebron, Bosh and Wade have all had a taste.

You guys can hate D'Antoni all you want but all these players are flocking to meet with him. There gotta be something good about the man.

We weren't stupid to dish out 24 mil to him when we know we weren't going nowhere. Now we all see the benefits of having a respectable coach.

Bigger pay check, less defense, losing: Knicks is a perfect fit for Amare.
Prolific, flashy, quick, no D, brittle: Amare is a perfect fit for the Knicks.

Meanwhile Lee will deservedly go to a winning franchise...

Seriously, luv.......You gotta stop the hate-fest with lost and the knicksThere are FOUR teams he is using to drive up his value.....not oneAnd he is basically getting a Max wherever he goes, like it or notI'm done with the speculations, as it changes every 1/2 hour with 'sources'. If he comes, he comes, if not.....meh

they will get the max......but if you look its the joe johnson thing all over......the hawks didnt originally offer the 6 year deal they offered the max....NY pitched.....joe went back to the hawks and they suddenly over the full 6 years 120 mil.......thats what im talking about...

Come to LA, Bro.

July 2, 2010  09:30 AM ET

Amare is a perfect fit back in Mike D's system...

All O and ZERO D.

I would not doubt them reuniting at all...

You have a vested interest in the Knicks remaining bad, and that's what's talking where you're concerned. It certainly isn't reasoned thought. You are the fan of a Celtics team on the decline. You can't have the Knicks ascending at the same time that's happening. You're looking out for your best interests and there is no shame in that. In fact, you're smart to do that. You NEED for no player to so much as consider NY. You saw how quickly your hapless Celtics turned around (in one season) to win a title, and you don't want that happening in NY. I get you, and its cool in the gang with me. Hate on brotha!

9th comment and a New Yorker is already pulling out the hate card.

I think Amare is perfect for the Knicks. No defense, plays hard when he wants, often injured, and a sure bet to be absolutely useless for the final three years of a max contract, with 20+ million per year on the payroll at that time. Go get 'em!

July 2, 2010  09:45 AM ET

Knicks huh? I just saw a ESPN SC clip where he's leaning to Miami... funny thing this social media stuff is.

its funny that if someone makes a comment about the knicks your automatically a hater...

look at the joe johnson thing and see dont you see the exact same thing occurring thats not hate bro

If JJ is not going to NY, it would be better if Amare found employment elsewhere. He alone cannot carry the franchise so he better check into Miami.

The Suns offer was probably right on the mark for his real skill level.
