Rockets shopping sign-and-trades

08:00 AM ET 07.02 | In their quest to land either of the top two free-agent power forwards - Chris Bosh or Amare Stoudemire - the Houston Rockets have been offering Trevor Ariza, Shane Battier and free agent Luis Scola in potential sign-and-trade packages, league sources said. Scola obviously would have to agree to a sign-and-trade because he's a free agent. If the Rockets can't get either Bosh or Stoudemire, they will push forward in negotiations to re-sign Scola.

Rockets expect some team to take up those marginal players? They couldn't even crack the playoffs last year and none of them made the all star team. Any foolish GM's out there?

they couldnt crack the west but they did have 42 wins.......

Battier and Ariza have SOME value as defensive players, but not nearly enough to land a marquee free agent. Funny, though, a year after Ariza signs a deal in Houston because they seemed to have a genuine sense of loyalty, and seemed to want him, that they are shopping him a year later. Your decision to take similar money to get out of LA is proving even more intelligent, Trevor.

How is Luis Scola at 8.6 reb, 16.2 pts who made only $3.3m last year a Marginal player ???

They also would be giving up.draft picks.......though

No doubt; they have to. Maybe they can use some of the pics they got from us in the Jefferies trade. Matter of fact I like Houston. I wish em well with everything they do but I still think they should wait till Yao Ming comes off the books before they go for the big names.

Bottom Line the Rockets will not land any of the top dogs during this free agent class.

Come to LA, Bros.

I still think they should try and unload Yao in a sign and trade. Toronto might gamble, they are looking at potentially getting nothing for Bosh.

Why would Bosh go to Houston? Unless they trade Yao he would not become the man. Actually the man at the moment is Brooks.

Houston does have a nice little group of players so I don't see the logic in "blowing it up" now for Bosh. I would let this current group play with Yao this year and see how far they get.

BTW, it must suck to be you Trevor.....

Well......when you consider that the perspective teams (Toranto and Pheonix) will get absolutely nothing when/if their FA power forwards sign elsewhere......they just may take go for one of these deals.

The question is whether Bosh or Stoudemire would be interested in max $$$$ + Houston.

Bosh may be, because he's from that 'neck of the woods' (OK, closer to Dallas than Houston). But I doubt that Stoudemire will bite.

Max $$$$ ($215 million for 6 years) + he's from Houston.

Trust me.....if Dallas could swing a sign and trade deal for Bosh......he'd be there in a heartbeat!

July 2, 2010  10:05 AM ET

Reference above......Bosh is actually from the Dallas area......my bad.

July 2, 2010  10:05 AM ET

Best option for toronto is to get bez and chalmers for Bosh. Otherwise they end up bigtime losers

July 2, 2010  10:49 AM ET

I guess the honeymoon with Ariza is over,..

July 2, 2010  11:22 AM ET

I think Scola should be kept by Houston. They had two players that brought intensity to every game: one was Scola and the other one was already sent to Sacramento. Scola also is a high character guy and plays very well with Yao Ming.

No one knows if Yao will regain the health of his first few years in the league, but if his surgically repaired foot does completely recover, Houston already has enough to be a top 4 team in the west.
