08:52 AM ET 07.02 | Another pound of dynamite could be added to Strikeforce's upcoming eight-man middleweight tournament. Scott Coker, the promotion's CEO, told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today that he plans to invite fearsome striker Melvin Manhoef (24-7-1 MMA, 0-1 SF) to the field, which is expected to begin Aug. 21 at "Strikeforce: Houston." Coker added that former middleweight champion Cung Le (7-1 MMA, 7-1 SF) will not participate in the tourney and will stick to "superfights."

Ummmmm....okay. Not too sure where SI is going with this. Is this really news worthy? Probably not. The guy is a kickboxer. His record for KB is 37 - 9. Not bad at all. His MMA record is 24-7-1. He has been submitted 4 times and TKO/KO'd the remaining 3 times. I would say that he needs to work on his bjj skills. It is apparent that he can throw leather, knees, and kicks.....but he is suspect to the ground and pound game.

If I was Manhoef, I would want to stay away from Cung Le. That guy is phenomenal. I would love to see Le vs. St. Pierre or Le vs. Anderson Silva.

Cung Le all day in any MMA league. Try to take him down... I dare you. You will get a spinning kick to you liver.

OK OK OK cung le is a beast but has a suspect chin and if Silva or Manhoef touch it, it would be game over. I also think that GSP could take him down with his speed and work him over. GSP is alot faster than scott smith and would avoid those kicks.

T&R once again shows its ass.

You all sound like complete idiots.

GSP vs Cung LE would be the most boring fight ever. GSP would take him down and control him for five uneventful rounds, prompting Le to go shoot some more movies.

Cung Le vs Melvin Manhoef would be a dream matchup for Melvin: He is faster, has better hands and has the kickboxing chops to avoid the back kicks of Le (yeah, their called back kicks not "spinning kicks")

Clouis,

Correction: I think you meant to say "spinning back kicks" not "back kicks".

Cung Le has never been submitted. No one knows for sure if his ground game is suspect. It would be nice to see him fight someone trained in bjj. That might clear some question marks.

Nick attempt at a correction, clown, but it is not a "spinning back kick"

It called a back kick, or in Cungs case usually, a jumping back kick.

Cung actually does a correct back kick, which is just a quarter turn and then kick straight back. A spinning back kick is really more of a turning side kick, something you do where you kick while still in motion.

Wikipedia has Cung Le listed as winning by a spinning back kick and punches. Shamrock called it a spinning kick during the fight. It looked like a spinning side kick to me. Point blank: who cares want they are called? I would not want to be on the receiving end of Cung Le's kick.

Cung Le should be in the tourney ..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BkouSDCOHg

clois is right. cung le is below alot of fighters he beat a washed up shamrock and has a weak chin please stop putting him in the class with GSP OR SILVA manhoef and him both controlled fights before they got knocked out. cung le did it against smith and manhoef did it against lawler.

Jewtastic, I don't agree with Clouis or you. I think Le is a very good fighter. I think he would do very well against GSP or Silva. Currently, the UFC doesn't have anybody except maybe Jon Fitch whom I think would match up well against GSP. I can't think of anybody against Silva. That guy has not lost since being in the UFC.

Where does Le's chin come into effect? He hasn't lost a MMA fight. Please explain where this came from. Heck, if anybody knows why he has a suspect chin, please explain.

well scott smith knock him out witha slow left hook after taking a beating for 14:30 minutes. this leads me to beleive that silva who can punch anyone anywhere anytime he wants would put some leather on his chin that makes scott smiths punch look like kiss.

i just think as far as gsp is concerned he would take cung le down at will and wear him out. i would really like to see cung le fight nick diaz!

i hink john fitch needs another match with GSP. fitch is tough he is a grinder and can last with gsp his first match he never stopped coming forward it was amazing.

Jewtastic,

I have to correct myself. Le did lose one MMA fight. I must have brain-farted on that. Now that you mentioned the Scott Smith fight, I think you might be right. Good point. I would still want to see the GSP vs Le fight to see if GSP could dominate him.

The Nick Diaz and Le fight is an awesome idea. I didn't even think about that. Nick Diaz is a beast. I would never have expected that until I saw him fight a couple of times. He fights as though he wants to kill. Man, so much anger. It drives him.

I hope we do see a rematch between Fitch and GSP. That would settle my thoughts on Fitch either being a champion or just getting stuck as the #2 guy.

Thanks for commenting back.

This just in I've been named as a possible entrant into the 185 8 man tourney. J/K.

Who hasn't been linked to this?

Manhoef is an exciting fighter. I remember when he fought Sakuraba I thought that would've ended the Gracie Hunter's career as Manhoef viciously pounded Saku. Manhoef has been KO'd by Robbie Lawler in SF so its interesting he would be fighting in this tournament as Lawler has been named as a possible entrant.
