08:55 AM ET 07.02 | Strikeforce on Wednesday released its middleweight champion, Jake Shields, which confirmed the fighter's long-expected exodus from the promotion. The man who's long coveted his services, UFC president Dana White, today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he sees no reason why he can't ink Shields "quickly."

just wish this could have happened about 3 months ago. he would be coaching tuf right now, getting ready for a title shot with gsp.

Don't worry there will be plenty of time for Dana to feed him to GSP.

you may be right, but i think the second he inks with ufc, he is instantly the biggest threat to gsp. gsp has even said himself that shields is his biggest competition at 170.

There's nobody else in welterweight for GSP. He needs this. I don't even understand why he's fight that goof Koscheck again. He doesn't deserve it after TWO fakes. And he lost to Paulo Thiago and Thiago Alves, so wtf. Jon Fitch is more deserving of a second shot, not Koscheck. Shields wrestling is the next best thing to GSP's so that's where it should be.

Freddie,

I totally agree with you on that comment. Jon Fitch keeps winning and he keeps getting held off. If GSP wins, then there will probably be a Super Fight between him and Anderson Silva. If Shields gets a shot at GSP before Fitch, then that would be some major crapola. No doubt, I think Shields needs to work his way up the fight chain.

I think if Shields had stayed at SF, he would have had to fight Cung Le and that would have ended in him losing the belt.

Heck, I would love to see Cung Le move over to the UFC. That guy is a phenomenal fighter and I think he would clean house on a lot of guys. Hell, I watched his fight vs Shamrock. The kick to his arm was so freaking hard and Shamrock definitely showed it in his face.

Had Shields stayed with SF, he would have had to fight Cung Le at some point. That would have been a loss for him. Cung Le is too much for most fighters.

Cung Lee has no ground game, imo Shields would get him to the ground and finish him.

what happened to him fighting Silva? GSP is in a stacked weight class with plenty of people to fight he still has koscheck and if fitch wins he should easily have a shot. anderson silva on the other hand needs some worth fighting....Shields

I wouldn't throw Shields in just yet against Silva. Shields needs to prove he can bang with the guys in his weight class for the UFC. Basically, he needs to work up the fight chain.
