Kiffin admits top recruit looking elsewhere

09:37 AM ET 07.03 | Seantrel Henderson, the nation's biggest -- and by many ratings, the best -- major-college football recruit, didn't show up for summer school classes at USC this week. Instead, he remained at home in Minnesota, igniting renewed speculation that he might ask to be released from his scholarship and prompting Trojans coaches to make their second trip to see him in just the last few weeks. Henderson, a 6-foot-8 offensive tackle who weighs in at well over 300 pounds, is vacillating about his decision and perhaps considering playing for Miami or Ohio State, according to various reports. On Thursday, Coach Lane Kiffin described how USC was having to "basically re-recruit" Henderson but expressed confidence the player would eventually join the Trojans.

I would be surprised if Henderson wants to leave and sit at another program for a year.

I wouldn't. He was told from the beginning that the punishments would not be harsh and that USC could give him a chance at a title. Now that the punishments have been handed down I would be very surprised if he stays!

Wait, I thought Kiffin only wants people who really WANT to be Trojans... why try to keep a kid who wants to leave?

Okay, I have to admit I agree with this comment. Prediction: He goes to Miami and is a dud. He joins a game design company lugging boxes of games in the warehouse and is arrested for selling them on the side. So far this kid seems to have "bling" in his eyes.

If Henderson really was lied to about the harshness of pending sanctions, he would have already announced that he was cutting USC loose for lying to him. That he hasn't done that tells me the sanctions are worse than he thought they would be, and he and dad are gonna reevaluate his options because of it.
Given Henderson's vagaries, I hope Kiffin doesn't put too much effort into convincing him to stay. I agree with JRM this guy is too individualistic for team sports. Bad locker room mojo.

He appears to be like the number 1 recruit from last year, the one who could never decide on a school. Running back, I forgot his name.

FJJ, very good comment and IMO, I think he will leave and sit out a year. Seantrel was lied to or at least, not given the whole information about the punishment that could/would come down on USC.

So we've got "team Henderson" up in Minnesota looking for the best path for Seantrel to cash-in. Going through Hollywood and the USC program was very appealing but....that darn investigation! But young Kiffen looks Seantrel and his Dad dead in the eye and convinces them that USC will receive minor, if any penalties. Well now, the bloom is off the USC rose and since Seantrel only plans on being in college the minimum, USC doesn't look so good and "fast-shuffle" Kiffen has lost his credibility. So what's the 300 pounder (with his Dad riding his back) to do? He likes the warm weather idea, so Miami might work. But Shannon and the Canes have not been top tier and the ACC is not either, so exposure is limited. Unless they can get a release from Kiffen (fat chance), he must sit out a year wherever he goes. Going to USC makes the most sense, but he is double mad at Kiffen. What's Team Henderson to do?

I have a feeling that the Henderson will try to appeal to the NCAA directly to get a waiver from sitting out a year as a result of the USC sanctions. It's pretty obvious that Kiffen is thinking the same thing as he is viewing the visits to Minnesota as "re-recruiting."

The NCAA is a Gestapo organization that oppresses, harasses and destroys the careers and reputations of student athletes. The nuclear option against USC was a vain attempt to secure crumbling justifications for power while maintaining their right to exploit for profit the students they oppress. It's the worst, most unjust system on the planet and must be replaced!

I think that's definitely his plan, but at the same time when you spend 3, probably 4-5, years on a team that has the singular goal of winnning a title, you'd probably want at least one title while you're there. If it was basketball and he was a one-and-done he couldn't care less about a title. If he didn't care at all about a title he probably wouldn't only consider teams that are contenders for a NC.

If this **** clown really wanted to contend for a national championship he would come down to the best conference: SEC not the ACC and Big 10. We all know the NC runs through the SEC. Fatty seems like he wants the easy way out, ****...
