09:26 AM ET 07.03 | When he was stopped by a Georgia State Patrol trooper late Wednesday night, UGA Athletic Director Damon Evans was smiling and laughing, according to the incident report. But just before he was booked into Atlanta City Jail on a DUI charge, Evans was "crying uncontrollably," said Trooper M. Cabe, who pulled over Evans' 2009 BMW. Evans, who admitted to drinking three Vodka cocktails, began bargaining with the trooper as soon as he realized he might be placed under arrest. "I am not trying to bribe you but I'm the athletic director of the University of Georgia," Evans said.

Just a sad situation all around. He was with a 28 year old woman and the cop found her panties between his legs. He told the cop he was holding them for her.

He is married with 2 children. Sad that people would do these types of things. I only wish him and his family the best down the road.

I'll never understand how guys making six figures can't wave down a taxi.

What a shame. He did a pretty good job as AD but he cant embarass the Univeristy like this and expect to keep his job.

stangely enough, the very day he was arrested his raise of 150K kicked in .....he makes 550K p/yr. Call a cab next time, moron.

Okay, this would be a bad situation for the people involved (esp. the family, etc.), but this reads like a scene from a comedy. Could this be the opening scene to The Hangover sequel?

Well, I sure hope he had fun that night, 'cause he sure ain't having any now!

Every post on here is dead on. My wife would kill me!

If he was a star player he would get a second chance with UGA or any school. They would say and do all the "right" things and he would keep his scholarship and play. Hope they treat this guy the same way. The family matter with the girl is family matter. That is a call they make.

The trooper was probably a GT fan.

July 3, 2010  07:53 PM ET

It all looked like a plan -- right up until the bullet entered his brain pan!

July 3, 2010  07:56 PM ET

OOPS!

July 3, 2010  09:11 PM ET

The positive (if there are any) - no one died (luckily)(yet).

This isn't the first alcodisiac romance to to hit the road. He's a little too old and too much of a role model/program enforcer to get a pass, but the things that will happen to him without any added dumping from the public will be quite enough.

The Silver Lining? Richt will be there for- EVER!

It's great that these guys will sacrifice their careers and marriages just so we have something to BS about during the off season.

What an overachiever this Mr. Evans is , way to take one for the team.

Two observations:
1. The reports state he was laughing when he was pulled over. I think this indicates either he was VERY intoxicated or it had happened before and he got off with a warning b/c of who he was.
2. As time goes on and he gets into survival mode, he will embrace the minority role and become aggressive, threatening, and obnoxious; claiming discrimination. I would not be surprised if Al Sharpton hasn't already been consulted. It's just the American way to posture and call a team of lawyers....It's probably coming
