09:11 AM ET 07.04 | llinois coach Ron Zook has said that the SEC is a better league than the Big Ten. The former Florida head coach was a guest on The Paul Finebaum Radio show earlier this week and when asked if the SEC was a "better conference" than the Big Ten, Zook said: "At this time, it probably is but I think there's teams in the Big Ten Conference just as well as there's teams in the Southeastern Conference that can play against anybody. The biggest thing that I've noticed is that maybe in the Southeastern Conference there's a few more big guys that can run, but trust me there's some awfully, awfully good players in the Big Ten Conference as well."

(A) This headline is misleading.

(B) He was talking to Finebaum, who is a known pot-stirrer.

Wait a minute! I got up early so I could see a Ron Zook college football thread? Seriously?

So that, like the UGa AD getting a DUI with someone (mistress?) in his car, we have something to talk about in the off season. Hats off to dese guys.....

He should know, he's lost a lot of games in both conferences!

Yeah, I suppose if you lose a lot, everyone looks like a better team.....

July 4, 2010  10:21 AM ET

Hard to argue with fact, but why state the obvious when it does you no good?... "the last four BCS champions have come from the SEC ."

July 4, 2010  10:22 AM ET

Zook thread? Should have just took the holiday off!

July 4, 2010  10:30 AM ET

This is an absolute no brainer that the SEC is better than the Big Ten. I'm sure some Big Ten honk will get on this and say it's not true and my response will be, what did OSU do against Florida and LSU and their 2 national title games?

July 4, 2010  11:48 AM ET

I always get a kick out of this stuff. Mine is bigger than yours.

That may be true in football but from top to bottom the Big 10 far surpasses the SEC in academics. Every school in the Big 10 is an AAU school. In the SEC admission standards are very lax and if you can carry a football you're in no questions asked.

July 4, 2010  12:11 PM ET

Why would anybody believe what Zook says...or even care. It's probably true, but he has no business saying it in public...not PC. As for the SEC having some "big guys that can run," that comes from chasing your sister for sex. Just kidding!

Refer to Post #17....Brain that is

July 4, 2010  12:33 PM ET

And yes we are talking FOOTBALL. I don't think the quarterback is wandering if the tackle has a bigger brain pan when he picking himself off the ground.....
