10:04 AM ET 07.04 | AJ Allmendinger and car owner Richard Petty had a heated exchange in the garage area at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night. Allmendinger pulled away from the seven-time NASCAR champion, turned his back on his boss and then stormed away from The King. Allmendinger declined to talk to reporters, but the executive vice president of Richard Petty Motorsports said his driver was merely frustrated by having a strong car and a poor finish.

More than one driver got a little hot, so it seemed. Pretty crazy, wild.

It is almost time on a Racing Legend.
It is sad to see the King go this way.
If a person like him can not make a go of it ........
I think a lot of it has to do with him standing by his principles and not taking Booze money.
That is what this type of racing was built on.
Busch
Budweiser
Jack
and the list goes on.
Bud Pole , you see the drink companies names all over.
When tobacco left the pockets got smaller and if you do not reach into one pocket at all ... ouch

July 4, 2010  12:05 PM ET

kodiak...come on.......being the KING only will get you so far....got to have a Team to back it up....not taking Booze money, Not the problem.....the big name non booze sponsor want to have a chance to WIN ......look UPS moved from Yates to a new team MWR to Roush....Shell took it money from RCR to Penske...why top teams every year....when is the last time a Petty car was at the Top 10...1996, 9th in owner points, 1998, 11th in owner points

True Nova.
I think Shell will be kicking themselves after the year Harvick is having.

July 4, 2010  12:44 PM ET

Petty wasn't such a great driver, just the best cheater of his generation.

Richard wasn't a cheater he was an innovator! You obviously never saw or read anything about NASCAR during the Petty era. They all bent the rules and then laughed about it afterward. That's what made the sport so great. A bunch of good ol boys just racing, breaking the rules and having a good time. And like Richard said if you aint cheatin you aint tryin.

Now now, Nova, the little girl admits she is not good on road coarses.. so I guess that means we are to cut her some slack.

and you sir, are the idiot of the day

July 4, 2010  02:55 PM ET

Congrats to the #29 on their 'win'. None of the best cars won that race as they were mostly wrecked due to dumb bass drivers. An emotional and deserved Nationwide win in the #3 was followed by a VERY lucky 4th place finish in the 400 for the 88 team. That was a 15th place finish car if I've ever seen one. Also looks like the 18 nickname should be "Wall Banger'...seems like I'm getting used to seeing that car in the fence. As for JPM, he's becoming almost as dangerous as JG lol. Happy 4th everyone!

Pond and Burgh -- appears to be another sorry FNG ... they'll be just like the rest of the "fly-by" morons ... that is until his mom finds out he's on the computer again!

Its called the heat of the moment -- plate racing will wear on ya' and the concentration is everything ... the young guys coming up have all dreamed at racing Daytona and want to do well ... lots of pressure there.

Dinger needs to understand the the King has probably forgot more about racing than the youngs troops know ... you are absolutely correct ... don't diss the King!

Dinger will be back -- he is too good a driver ... just got his knickers in a knot!

July 4, 2010  07:33 PM ET

Dinger spun right in front of me....He should listen to Richard.
As far as Harvick winning? He wasn't lucky. He dominated the race early and was in the top 10 all night.
Now Jr...that finish was lucky after everyone in front of him crashed out.

I believe Jr said that postrace -- he was not happy with the car ...

As a side note -- racing and luck go hand in hand ...

July 4, 2010  09:23 PM ET

Good Bye Dinger - LMAO

I didn't hear the post race interviews as I was driving home but that would fit.
I was not bashing Jr, just stating how it looked.
The quick interview with Kyle Busch after he wrecked drew huge roars from the crowd when he said he may as well blame himself for the wreck...priceless.
