06:09 AM ET 07.06 | JaMarcus Russell effectively eliminated himself from becoming a Jet any time this millennium with his latest bonehead move. The free agent quarterback was arrested at his Alabama home today for possession of a controlled substance during a police investigation. The former Raiders signal caller was busted for codeine syrup, which can be mixed with soda to create "Purple Drank." (Russell didn't have a prescription for codeine).

Logical. It makes very little sense having to bail out a guy who probably wouldn't make the team.

July 6, 2010  06:26 AM ET

Now we can associate "bust" with JaMarcus for a whole new reason. What a bone head.

July 6, 2010  06:29 AM ET

This just adds more fuel to changing the rookie pay scale going into the next cba.

July 6, 2010  06:31 AM ET

Give BIG MAC another chance--- He is from the SEC, they don't know any better!!

July 6, 2010  06:37 AM ET

And I didn't think it could much worse for JaBust Russell...

Been years in the making. Let the rookies earn their keep in the NFL.

This is a perfect example of how to shoot yourself in the foot.
What a dumb **** ****.

By the way, did that rookie WR from San Fran got his max contract or did he sit out the season? Kinda got lost somewhere in the middle

Those kind of players deserve to get an L tattoed on their forehead ... The L for Looser that is

Ryan Leaf still remains the undisputed champion although JaMarcus sure gave him a run for his money....

He made $2,393,077 last year. Heyward-Bey made $2,420,000 in Oakland.

Right. I should've pro-rated that $2,393,077 since he played in 11 games. He made $1,654,240 last year.

July 6, 2010  07:17 AM ET

Make that $1,645,240 (the dyslexia kicked in when I typed it).

"Purple Drank"? I'm going to crawl back under the covers.

OMG!! What are you thinking!?! You have the perfect job as a QB in the NFL. You get paid hundreds of time more than the average joe, (actually more than the President of the United States), you work for one third of a year and in the off-season the only thing you HAVE to do is take care of your body. You actually blow it all by being un-disciplined, un-focused and messing with drugs!?! JaMarcus what were you thinking!?!?

July 6, 2010  07:40 AM ET

Brainchild! Makes you want to go out and hire an LSU graduate! Really how do these idiots remain in school? He is a bigger bust than any other including Leaf, Boz, and Mandarich, by virtue of the 37 mil. he stole from the Raiders! I hear he went to the Mike Tyson school of finance too! He will be broke in no time flat, what a joke!

You're criticizing JaCarcus for not thinking? When did we ever expect him to think, other than choosing which MacDonald's meal to supersize?

I couldn't agree more. Perhaps he went to the Marcus Vick-Maurice Clarett-Mike Tyson School of how to eff-up your career.
