Cheap shot upsets Gators

Ultra-competitive Florida quarterback Tim Tebow showed in the opener that he's learned to do the right thing by running about of bounds to protect himself. Now, the Gators have to worry about players on the opposing sideline doing the right thing. UF coach Urban Meyer said Monday he was upset that a Western Kentucky player took a shot at Tebow with an elbow after Tebow scooted out of bounds in Saturday's game.

Play football you pansy!! I can not believe they were killing this team and Meyer kept his starters in the entire game, can we say OVERKILL?? Good to see FL can kill a weaker team. Saturday has some great games on but this was NOT one of them.

September 4, 2007  11:44 AM ET

keep quiet. this is an entirely new team from last year and he needed to get the starters plenty of action. they need all the chemistry they can before tennessee comes in in 2 weeks. and by the way, this was a major cheap shot. they really should have thrown the flag.

September 4, 2007  11:45 AM ET

and by the way.... FL can kill good teams too. maybe you forgot about the championship game 8 months ago???

Obviously based on your name (Peach), you reside in the "Peach State", or should I say the Gators allow you to live in Georgia because the Gators do OWN your state. Until you decide to pitch and catch with the best in the SEC, hold your biased Florida bashing comments to yourself. If you would've watched the game, you would've known what they were talking about. It wasn't brutal, but it was an intentional cheap shot at a far superior athlete. Probably the only time that guy will get on TV in his life. He thought it was pretty funny afterwards.

As far as Meyer keeping his starters in, lets not even go there. You got a guy in his first start as a QB. Logic speaks that you want him to get as much PT as possible. Check your facts, keep your bias to yourself and go sharpen your paws, because you are gonna need it in Jacksonville.

Urban...don't talk...shhhhhhhhhhh it's better for you

September 4, 2007  12:05 PM ET

This is a nonstory. Every D goes head hunting when they see a decent athletic QB on the opposite of the field. It comes with the territory.

September 4, 2007  12:17 PM ET

I was always taught that if it's not called ots not cheap or a penalty....its part of the game, worse than that happens on the bottom of the pile every down. UF did look good though...

September 4, 2007  12:21 PM ET

Shut up Florida fans, stop talking about last years Championship. No one cares about last year. Tebow will be exposed when they play a team with decent corners and safteys. He sucks at passing the ball!

September 4, 2007  12:42 PM ET

I do reside in the THE PEACH state and it has nothing to do with it. Get over last year. I will always cheer for my home teams win, lose or draw regardless. I do not choose to cheer them on because they win a title like some fans. It is amazing how many fans Florida gets when they get titles. You had a killer QB last year. Tough team as well, I will give kudos and have no problem doing so. I loved Noah, still do actually he is an amazing b-ball player and person. (school does not matter to me as long as you can play my friend and are fun to watch while doing it)
As for Saturday I am NOT for a team killing a weaker opponent in a game to prove they can. What exactly did you prove Saturday G8? You beat a weak KY team? Impressive! They were a horrible team. Meyer looked like a he had Napoleon syndrome in the bathroom with a group of men! Florida did look great but so did a lot of other teams.

September 4, 2007  12:50 PM ET

even Tebow admitted that the guy who took the cheap shot at him was probably the hardest hit Western KY delivered the whole game......and this weekend they play Troy at home.....that's a couple of nice warmup games before the real competition (TENN) comes to town.

September 4, 2007  01:09 PM ET

So because Florida complains about cheap shots that makes us crybabies? Soooooo because it was a 1-AA it makes it okay? MamiU1 I wouldn't expect you would know what a cheap shot was supporting Thug U and Peach get a clue before you start talking....Tebow, Noah, ummmmm this is about football but im sure next time you will include a shout out to Emmitt Smith, Erin Andrews and Mr. Two Bits.....good grief! And last but not least ATLfan7, TENN? Real Competition? On paper lets talk about that wonderfully coached team....NOT! Sooooo this that wasn't a logical thought...convince your boy Mike Vick to coach Georgia at least he won't have any issues getting them bulldogs to fight.... WOOOOOOOOORD!

September 4, 2007  01:11 PM ET

That's so cheap playing two teams like that before your most competitive rivalry. All I gotta say is, I'm glad UGA has an off game before UF this year, and the gators have to play UK the week before Georgia.

September 4, 2007  01:14 PM ET

UGA could have 3 weeks off.....Richt call Urban daddy just like he called Ron "Frickin" Zook before that..... They said slavery was illegal but we own ya'll

September 4, 2007  01:14 PM ET

was there a flag or not?

September 4, 2007  01:42 PM ET

UF will lose two games this year. The kid is a D1 athlete. I am sure he didn't even feel the "cheap shot"

September 4, 2007  01:45 PM ET

plain and simple, the Gators have two 'tune up' games before they start playing their regular conference schedule. so i guess you're saying that Tenn is no match for Fla?! and i don't know what Vick has to do with this topic but whatever......

September 4, 2007  02:02 PM ET

There was no flag, but in my opinion the player who threw the elbow should have been ejected. It was a cheap shot. I'm not sure that the referee saw it. And by the way, players on the bench throwing elbows at players running out of bounds is not "football. " MiamiU1 - as a fellow Canes fan, I'm surprised you are taking shots at Tebow. I would gladly trade any Cane on the roster for Tebow to replace Kirby Freeman and Kyle Wright.

September 4, 2007  02:02 PM ET

Uhhhh may want to check the all time records there florida folks..Georgia is leading the series...so I kind if think UGA owns fla.

September 4, 2007  02:09 PM ET

Urban needs to just shut up. Shut up, and let the players play the game.

September 4, 2007  02:11 PM ET

cheap shots go hand in hand with football......
