08:53 AM ET 07.07 | Wayne McDonnell Jr., a professor at New York University's Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management says Mavericks owner Mark Cuban would not be allowed to purchase the Texas Rangers. The Texas Rangers are set to go on the auction block next week after an unexpected snag in the team's bankruptcy plans. "Even if (Dallas Mavericks owner) Mark Cuban wanted to buy the Rangers, Major League Baseball would reject him because of who he is, even though he is brilliant and talented,'' McDonnell said. "MLB doesn't want someone who will rock the boat.''

Brilliant? Talented? Apparently NYU has different definitions of those words than most places. Perhaps Mark could be a guest lecturer? Nobody better than he to prove his brilliance and talent. Right prof?

"MLB doesn't want someone who will rock the boat"... how obnoxious is this. MLB had to be PUSHED, unwillingly to do something about PEDs. Maybe someone should be rocking the **** boat. I know what they mean, but people like George Steinbrenner and Mark Cuban bring attention to the product, and you know what they say about attention in show business.

Typical MLB; why don't they just announce a partnership with Augusta National and get it over with? Mark Cuban would be fantastic for baseball. This would never have happened if Bud Selig were still alive.

My Question is? Can they really stop him from buying the team if it goes to auction? I thought the highest bidder takes the team.

Does this mean Nolan Ryan's group may not purchase the team? Maybe they will buy the Astros from Drayton McLane. Makes more sense, considering Nolan and others own 2 minor league affiliates for the Astros. (I know, I'm dreaming.)

it's too bad b/c i think he'd be good for the rangers and for baseball. as a cub fan i had been excited about the rumors that he was interested in owning them. say what you want about him as a person, but the guy is willing to do what it takes to win. what more do you want from the owner of your favorite team?

I believe they still can. Even if Cuban is the highest bidder, the other owners still have to approve it by a majority vote.

So he's not brilliant and talented is what you'll are telling me? He is a self made billionaire right? Don't let your hatred of his tactics cloud your thinking people. I can't stand him sometimes but I would love if he was the owner of the Rangers if I was one of their fans, or maybe they can stay with what they've had over the last few years?!
