07:46 AM ET 09.05 | A collective sigh of relief could probably be heard from Denver's Pepsi Center on Tuesday after the news Nene was walking normally. The Brazilian forward suffered a nasty-looking calf injury Saturday at the FIBA Americas Olympic qualifying tournament. He was wheeled off the court during the first quarter of a semifinal against Argentina. It was later diagnosed as a calf strain, and a somber-looking Nene was wheeled to a team bus. According to Nuggets trainer Jim Gillen, there is still no timetable for when the Nuggets top post player will return to the court.

weak post playa, not a big lost at all

September 5, 2007  02:01 PM ET

Weak post player, not a big loss? Are you kidding me? Nene's presence on the court last year was the reason Camby was able to stay on it for 70-some games and subsequently win Defensive Player of the Year. Nene handled all the big bodies inside on D, which allowed Camby to roam and help. Nene's as quick and strong as anyone in the league! He's got spin moves in the low post that Duncan couldn't stop. The fortunes of the Nuggets this year lie in the development of this kid into an elite NBA low post player. If teams have to double him it will open everybody else's games up and we can contend in the West this year!

These international games are pointless, because they all play in the NBA anyway. All they so is expose NBA players to possible injury, and wear them out so that they play tired in playoffs.

Mfsslj have you got your beer goggles on. If not something else is clearly blurring your judgement, maybe crack. Nene shouldnt be mentioned in the same sentence as Duncan. If the Nuggetts season depends on the development of Nene, I would give up now.

He is the reason why Duncan struggled against the Nuggets in the playoffs. Duncan did not score over Nene, it was Najhera and Reggie Evans that got tore up by him. When Nene is fit, he is an absolute beast! Nene has all the tools he just needs to finish putting them together, people forget that he is only 24. Also, he wasn't in shape for the tournament and truely it looked like he didn't want to be there. By the time the regular season rolls around and he's been back at work with Furious George he will be fine. When Nene is in shape he is as good if not better than Al Jefferson, who is pretty damn good in his own right.

I'm going to have to agree with tzach and mfsslj...Nene is a beast...he can't be stopped when he is healthy and in-shape...he's developing into a premiere big player...Not only is he putting that big body to use down low on defense but he's hustling up court and finishing hard on people with monster dunks...If he continues to progress like he did last year expect big things from the Nugs...as if another stellar performance from Melo this summer wasn't enough, a healthy Nene is pivotal.
