06:35 AM ET 07.08 | Ed Reed isn't retiring this season. In fact, it appears that he is looking to the future. Reed has contacted the Ravens about a new contract, the Pro Bowl safety said in a Tuesday interview on 105.7 The Fan. One of the most dominant safeties in NFL history, Reed has three years remaining on a six-year contract extension that he signed June 2006. He is scheduled to earn $6 million in 2010, $6.5 million in 2011 and $7.2 million in 2012.

Nice pick Ed.

We get a lot of stories about guys wanting to renegotiate their contracts, don't we? I like watching Reed play and he looks set to make good money in the next three years. I wonder what numbers he has in mind for his new contract.

Three years left on his contract, making money like that, and he wants to redo the deal? Maybe I'm behind the times, but to me that price range sounds like a good neighborhood for a DB to live in.

All of the knotheads wanting more money gets in the way of the ones that deserve it. And Reed is damn sure deserving of whatever he can get.

Well unlike so many players who have one great year and think that entitles them to redo their deal, Ed has had many years as one of the top safeties in the league so if he wants to commit to three more years, I'd listen to his demands. He's earned at least that.

Agreed. You just beat me to it by about a minute.

Reed is a great player and they should listen to what he has to say, but he's already committed for three years unless he retires. At $6M+ per year.

It's not like he's on his rookie contract making the league minimum. The team has already given him the big money extension the players all want. Now that isn't enough.

I pose a question. If you have a bad year and get loads of money should you have to give some back? Reed has proven himself time and time again but I ask this about the one good season people have.

whatever you do sign"ED", ASAP, he's the best there is!

July 8, 2010  08:04 AM ET

Um, I might throw him a little cash now, but how far are you going to extend him? The tread on those tires is already looking a little thin.

July 8, 2010  08:07 AM ET

He is the shiznit no doubt, but isnt he coming off hip surgery? No renegotiations until you clear medically. Simple really

July 8, 2010  08:17 AM ET
