06:31 AM ET 07.09 | According to several sources, the Phillies have been informed by the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays that they will be interested in outfielder Jayson Werth if the defending NL champions put him on the market later this month. The right-handed hitting Werth is a free agent following the season and should the Phillies fall out of the NL East race before the July 31 trade deadline they will shop him.

I am stunned, stunned I tell ya, to see the Red Sox and Yankees mentioned here.

I wonder if this has more to do with all the rumors about Werth and Utley's wife.

July 9, 2010  08:26 AM ET

Most likely bolting in the offseason, might as well get some prospects in return. As long as there's a half decent replacement available, I say pull the trigger.

July 9, 2010  08:36 AM ET

Calling it now: Yankees send Montero and Prospects to Seattle, Seattle sends Cliff Lee back to Philadelphia once they're given a chance to sign Lee long term, Yankees get Werth, once they're given a chance to sign him.

Lee is out of the AL (especially Boston and TB), Werth shaves his ridiculous looking beard, Montero becomes the next Dioner Navarro. Everyone wins. Except the Mariners.

They also covet thy neighbors ass.

For some reason these rumors always find their way around Phillies team. For most of the hockey season there were rumors that the Flyers werent playing well because Jeff Carter slept with Scott Hartnells wife. Who starts this crap?

Nah, if the Yankees are giving up Montero, they'd rather have Lee, after seeing what he did against them in the World Series....

July 9, 2010  09:10 AM ET

There is zero chance that Werth gets traded this season

July 9, 2010  10:32 AM ET

Though shalt not covet mid-tier players...

This is decidedly not what will happen.
Perhaps the Yanks want to keep Lee from TB...I say let TB take Lee, let them screw with their farm system. they sure won't be trading Upton for him...

July 9, 2010  11:22 AM ET

Except for the Yankees, Lee would be merely a short-term signing for other teams. Yankee management knows that. They do this every year. They "express interest" in players in order to force other teams to drain their minor league talent. Once the season is over, the Yankees will become major players in signing Lee and Crawford. They don't want or need Werth.

July 9, 2010  11:47 AM ET

Ooo...I wonder if there is a way that Drew can get traded to Philly! That would be ironic!

July 9, 2010  11:55 AM ET

the redsox already have two of the better pitchers this year in lester and buch. true lee would be an amazing addition to any team but the sox obviously need offense since all of theirs is either playing hurt or on the DL. werth would be a nice addition for a final push for the sox. TB will prob attempt to offer philly upton and i dont see them taking upton. and im sure the yanks will try but i just dont see philly offering werth up to them. or ny even really wanting him, ny wants lee and if they go after him first either TB or boston will jump on werth right away, and hope ny doesnt land lee

not even .00000000001 percent chance that he gets traded

Utley has been underperforming this year, so this makes sense.

You're stunned? You must be kidding, right?
The Yankees are desperate for a righty on their bench. Don't forget, the Yankees are contenders. Due to injuries, the Yanks need to add depth to their bench. They're not going into the post season without a strong bench, they're the Yankees. Remember?
I won't even get into the Red Sox. If you don't understand why the Red Sox could use Werth, well, I guess you're not from this planet.
