I agree with Tressel and I trust that he was rooting for Michigan. Professionals don't root against others. College Football is driven by CONFERENCES. Its not like the professional leagues who are totally out for themselves. Bowl Games, BCS points, TV revenue, etc are tied to Conferences.

Say what you want about Jim (and I could and often do say plenty), but he is a classy guy.

And I hope my Wolverines kick the crap out of his Buckeyes this year.

Tressel has a deeper motive than what he stated. He wants Michigan to win of course, because he wants to beat them and have Michigan factor into his strengh of schedule for the better. If everyone in the Big Ten but Ohio St. went 4-8 then all those conference wins would amount to squat in his quest for a National Championship. Brethren! Ha.

Why hate on Tressel? I think that he's stating what almost every coach within a conference is thinking.

Reasons:

1. OSU beating an undefeated team looks so much better.
2. Losing to an undefeated team, though only slightly, softens the blow.
3. Though I feel it shouldn't reflect upon your team, a fellow conference team losing reflects upon you and all the teams within that conference also. So on and so on.

All these things are pretty obvious but a lot of times go unsaid.

Michigan fans, you DO need Tressel's pity. You should all be embarrassed. I am embarassed for you and I am not even an Ohio State fan..Just a college football fan...Go Big Ten!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michigan fans are hating on Tressel because they can't beat him and this is their only way to get back at him. He said nothing other than he roots for his conference when he isn't playing them. What's wrong with that? Sounds like a decent guy, but to a Michigan fan it's pity from him.

All you michigan fans hoping to beat OSU I think you'd better find a new coach first. Car is going to be 1-6 against Tressel after this year. How does it feel to go from #5 to off the boards??? That's gotta hurt.

I'm a PSU alumni and a hobby OSU fan, and even *I* was a bit upset over the defeat. I take pride in the Big Ten and it bothers me to see such a scene of madness.

Really gives the Pac-10 and SEC fans something to use in their ever constant struggle to be the nation's premier conference.

Hmmmm, kind of torn loyalties....I love the Big Ten+1, but abhor Michigan & Ohio State.....but as others have pointed out, college football is driven by the conference. That & I hate the ACC & PAC-10.

Jason70...you kind of contradict yourself...first you say Michigan can't beat OSU then you say if we are going to beat OSU we need to find a new coach. Is it the team that can't beat OSU or is it Carr can't beat Tressel? Because there have been several teams under Carr that didn't beat OSU but the constant is that Carr was the coach. So which did you really mean? The team can't beat OSU or Carr can't beat Tressel? Just want to clarify which I need to defend, the team or the P I S S Poor coach we have.

Because if it is the coach...I won't be defending him. If it is the team I will be.

If anyone doubts that Tressel is a class act, they are sorely mistaken. He is. You can think what you want, but it's how you ACT that shows whether or not you have class and Tressel has always displayed class. Lloyd has as well.

Bottom line between the two is Tressel understands the rivalry better and understands how to go after it in big games. This is why he has owned the rivalry of late.

My hatred for Buckeyes has never had anything to do with the coach or athletic department - never has. It's the followers. Almost always the head coach and athletic department has proven to be classy leadership and the rivalry has had lots of great years and battles across all sports. I just wish OSU fans would learn a thing or two from their program's leadership.

I agree some Buckeye fans can be classless but there also are a lot of Mich. fans who can't keep their mouths shut!!!!I have Mich. friends and OSU friends and in our group the Mich. fans outshine the Buckeye fans in being the ones hard to stomach.....All groups have some bad apples but Mich. has a whole orchurd..

I agree with Kraz...I watched the OSU vs UofM game last year with a mixed crowed of fans...there were probably about 10 from each side. 6 of the OSU fans were cool and about 6 of us U of M fans were cool. The other 8 (4 for each) were asked to leave at halftime because both sides of the fence were ebarrassed by the others that were pulling for their respective teams. But what I agree with is the fact of why I can't pull for OSU. I grew up in OH and I could not stand the obnoxious fans for OSU. I didn't see it from the U of M fans in OH so was drawn to the Wolverines. There will always be obnoxious fans everywhere but bottom line Buckeye sports and their coaching staff are a very classy bunch. I hurt just as bad last year watching USC march all over the Wolverines as I did the Gators taking it to the Buckeyes. The Big Ten is the Big Ten and you have to support the conference. What happened last weekend I am ashamed of. If for no other reason, which there are numerous, it is because it just fueled the fire of the SEC and PAC 10 fans that always talk smack about the Big Ten. Carr has not only set back the Wolverines football program but the power that is the Big Ten. Which is why I WANT HIM GONE FOREVER!!!

Why on earth would an Ohio State fan want Michigan to lose? It's not a rivalry if one school wins 10 games every year and the other loses 7 every year. That's call an asswhooping, not a rivalry. Fierce competition breeds rivalry - why do you think last year's game was so interesting? Of course Tressel was rooting for Michigan.

I've got to say of all the schools I've gone to for a game, while wearing my OSU gear, UM has been the best by far, I have never been to a tailgate better than the ones that have in Ann Arbor. I LOVE the Bucks, but some of the fan are stupid hicks that couldnt appreciate a good team or player if one hit them in the face. My favorite line is "HE SUCKS!" and why does he suck? "Cuuuzzz he fffnnn Plays for Muchigin!"
