Terps QB copied off student
Posted: Thursday September 06, 2007 06:42AM ET
Brandon Bullock, a former Maryland student, said that Terps backup quarterback Josh Portis copied off his paper for a pop quiz during the spring semester -- an incident that has led to the program's fastest and most hyped quarterback being declared ineligible for the 2007 season. Portis, a transfer from Florida who was expected to receive playing time this season, admitted to making "a mistake" involving the university's academic code of integrity. He said he did not plagiarize, but would not specify how he violated the code.

I find it interesting that this guy is a 'former' student. That makes for a pretty convenient time to come out with this, doesn't it? I guess he didn't have the testicular fortitude to stand up in the middle of the pop quiz and say, 'No Portis! Stop copying my answers!'. I mean, did he knowingly let him cheat? If so, was he allowed to graduate, or did he get kicked out of school?? Don't get me wrong, I don't condone cheating by any means, but if you know it's happening, grow a pair and speak up when it happens!

Report Offensive CommentI agree. This all seems fishy, but the dude did admit to cheating. So off he goes.

Report Offensive CommentYou're right at least he admitted he cheated. Most spoiled atheletes would never had admitted it..Sounds like a standup guy who made a mistake.

Report Offensive CommentIneligible for the season? I know that universities take this stuff seriously, but I think a few games and 100 sentences consisting of, "I will not cheat off my neighbors test," should suffice. Oh well, it's Maryland. A second string quarterback will get them to that losing season just as quickly as a starter.

Report Offensive CommentHow about this....
1. An athelete who admits wrong doings
2. a Dean who can punish students
3. An athletic program that cant save a starter from this...
I spent 11 yrs as a student, and another 11 teaching in college, and never saw this.......

Yeah, stand up over a stupid pop quiz and overnight become the most hated kid on campus. You wanna know why he waited until he wasn't there anymore? There you go.

Report Offensive CommentI'm impressed the kid admitted to it. And that Maryland didn't try to cover up. Good for both of them.
