The Golf T&R was going good for a week or so with new articles but it looks like the intern has returned to Summer camp.

Forget about getting in the R&A Clubhouse and kissing the Captains Balls though - back in 1981, I sent the wife in there when she needed a toilet - for kind of a giggle, telling her there'd be a facility somewhere not far inside the door - she wandered all about the place, and finally found a cubicle, but then got sprung on the way out - I've got a picture somewhere I think, of ma wee sweetie being pointed down the alley by a disgruntled steward. She thought it was just great - she got invited to Buckingham Palace in 1994 - but counts the R&A, a notch or two, above that. I'm pretty certain they've relaxed the no women allowed rule since then, but I kinda doubt that the no caddies has been.
The other things about St Andrews that she loved - "They have great paths that I can play down to get to the fairway (she played her very first 18 hole round of golf at the Old Course) - and, the starter telling us that you and the lad can go off right after this foursome of Germans, so that'll be one full, and one junior, 9 pounds even,please ( being early in May, she had a toque pulled down around her ears, and was playing with a starter set, in a canvas carry-bag) - she drove it off, about 150 yards or so, and got a smattering of applause from around the first tee.

Wow great info Tom ! Only 9 pounds for the round ? My Dad and Uncle tried to get a tee time at St Andrews a few years back well in advance of a trip to the land of single malts.The waiting list was huge and they could not get on for any price.
