10:17 AM ET 07.11 | Richard Petty Motorsports plans to have a three- to four-car stable next season that includes AJ Allmendinger and Paul Menard, vice president of race operations Robbie Loomis said on Saturday at Chicagoland Speedway. Loomis also didn't close the door on re-signing Elliott Sadler, who declared himself a free agent on Friday and said he didn't expect to return to the organization.

Don't know but if I had to guess, I would say that RPM doesn't really want him.

July 11, 2010  11:38 AM ET

From what it sounds like Sadler is about the best option they have that is still available and wouldn't mind driving for them.

July 11, 2010  11:47 AM ET

why do some of these teams waste time with the washed up and never was drivers. Thers a few drivers down in the busch series that deserve a chance. like michael annett and landon cassill i know landon is waiting for the 24 ride but it might be a few more years till he gets his shot

Maybe a stable, but not a stud farm

what has landon cassill done that is even worthy of him being mentioned for the 24 ride besides.. nothing.

July 11, 2010  01:30 PM ET

he hasnt really done much but from what i read awhile back is that hendrick was grooming him for the 24 ride dont know how true it was but it wouldnt hurt to see some fresh faces up there instead of the drivers who are simpply filling seats such as sadler, speed, sorenson, mears etc

July 11, 2010  02:19 PM ET

Sadler can drive pretty good sometimes.......but he is inconsistent and gets into a lot of "situations" on the track..

Him saying that he is a free agent, makes me wonder what RPM is really planning......maybe they are only interested as a last resort....... OR maybe Sadler does not want to deal with them, unless they are a last resort for him..........wait and see how this plays out.

thats what im thinking (both sides feel that way)

July 11, 2010  07:25 PM ET

I suspect it is what Landon Cassill is doing behind the scenes, while testing for the 24 and 48 teams, that might make him a candidate for a Hendrick Cup Car in the future.

July 11, 2010  07:53 PM ET

I thought Sadler was going to do better than he has. I'm surprised he didn't win a lot more.

July 11, 2010  09:51 PM ET

I think 3 wins in 13 seasons defines his capabilities. I'd rather develop younger drivers. Elliot Sadler is 35, I don't see him improving. He's been in the best equipment with not much to show for it.

Bingo. paying to continue for him to go around in circles with no reasonable chance for success is fruitless for RPM

ABSOLUTELY! With money becoming tighter ande tighter everyday in NASCAR, why on earth would "The King" pour money down the drain by keeping Elliot Sadler? He appears to be well past his prime and isn't a "serious" contender for a Cup victory and has NO possibility of a Championship. Time to move on Elliot! Stick with the trucks where you can still leave a mark and not look like a track lapper.

Elliott will linger in Cup. in the #36 or #38, or #71, or #09 or the other people looking for a driver who at least know where the tracks are without a GPS.

Me too, but look at the organization as well.

good point, but if Elliott Herman Lammo Idiot Moron Boob Sadler drove the 48 or the 24 car, he would still find a way to suck...he won, what, 2-3 races in Yates cars?
