Is Cutler really a franchise QB?

07:22 AM ET 07.12 | This year perhaps more than any other will go a long way to answering whether Jay Cutler can be an NFL leader. A franchise quarterback, which is what the Bears believed they were getting when they mortgaged two drafts to acquire Cutler from the Denver Broncos, ultimately is given that label because he makes the players around him better. It's difficult to argue that Cutler made those around him better in 2009. Sure, a few receivers made a few plays here and there and tight end Greg Olsen caught eight touchdown passes (three in a 41-21 loss to the Arizona Cardinals), but you can't say Cutler elevated the play of his teammates.

And this counts as news? He was a big question mark in Denver too, minus the Pro Bowl year.

Or he makes every secondary player on the defense looks better.

Every secondary in the league loves him, because they know they'll get more passes thrown their way than any of his receivers.

Any secondary facing him looks better before they hit the field.

Can Chicago say: Oops!

I'll bet they're wishing they had those draft picks now.

Generally speaking, I strongly believe in holding on to your draft picks no matter the state of your team. This trade just proves my point.

Maybe the Redskins should take note as well, Snyder gives away draft picks like he gives out big time contracts.

Nobody looks like a franchise quarterback with that crappy o-line and group of wide receivers.

He would be great in Fantasy if interceptions counted as completed passes.

He does that, just so you have something to talk about.

If they won two Super Bowls in a row, we's talk about that too.

Since when did Chicago have receivers

Cutler is not a franchise QB. Next question.

They do, unfortunately they play for the other team.

Jeff George is still looking for an NFL team, maybe the Bears should give him a tryout.
