Big 12 officials blew ASU-UT call

Arkansas State coach Steve Roberts says he was told by the Big 12 Conference's supervisor of football officials that game officials wrongly overturned ASU's recovery of an onside kick in the final minute of the No. 7 Longhorns 21-13 victory on Saturday. "We got a confirmation [Tuesday] that they missed the call," Roberts said. The Indians were flagged with 56 seconds left in the game for an improper formation. Texas recovered a subsequent onside kick attempt and ran out the clock. Roberts said the game film showed the Indians had enough players on both sides of the ball before the kick.

Who has the W and who has the L?

September 6, 2007  10:29 AM ET

Did that play even matter?

September 6, 2007  10:50 AM ET

Let's see. An 8 point lead with 56 seconds left and a legal onside kick was flagged? Yep, I'd say that play mattered.

Neither did I (see the game, that is). I read the article above.

What's with officials and bad on-side kick calls in the NCAA? We don't see that play much, but c'mon, it's an important play.

america's legend...nice attitude...they're going down this weekend against TCU...

September 6, 2007  02:19 PM ET

america's legend...nice attitude...but no worries...they'll lose this weekend against TCU...

"In other news, it was discovered that some Big 12 officials have links to Tim Donaghy."

The refs are human, yes. But for this call to occur, doesn't make any sense. Like Gator said, "Yep, I'd say that play mattered". When a game is too close like that, a replay should be the rule, not the exception. Each team deserves a fair chance at a win.

Unless they're the Buckeyes. (Yes, I am a Wolverines fan, and yes...that loss this past weekend still hurts like a kick in the junk with steel toe boots)

I'm glad Texas and OU won. It gives them the chance to be undefeated before the Aggies obliterate their hopes and dreams of a Big 12 or national title.

September 7, 2007  12:48 AM ET

OU is going 13-0 this season, fellas. I can feel it in my bones, there's a storm a brewin'... and it's name is vengence against USC.

September 7, 2007  07:41 AM ET

Miami Defense is going to tear them up! I love it.........Your little QB won't have anywhere to run.

September 7, 2007  02:17 PM ET

E-Nasty Yep we hear from yet another nice Mich. fan. And people bad mouth Buckeye fans.. Some of you Mich. fans are just as bad or worse... Always getting cheated and the Buckeyes always getting the calls...WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

September 7, 2007  03:22 PM ET

generalklagg, cypher9600, and DO_WORK_SON i beg to differ. TCU and OU will both be going down this weekend, like your sister at a rock concert. the big burnt orange machine is just getting warmed up. 10/6 is right around the corner, so buckle up.

September 8, 2007  12:31 PM ET

I bleed orange...I support my team...but from what I saw last week, if they win 8 games this year it will truly be a miracle. Sigh.

Ok guys this isn't like OU v. Oregon. It was a bad call but it was a penalty. It is not subject to review. Plus there is no guarantees. I feel bad for the ASU fans but this isnt a TD not called one or a PI in the endzone.

Here is the difference last year OU had the lead and it was a fictional PI call that allowed Oregon to get in positon... oh yeah that was after a blown call (not a penalty) subject to review regarding possession of an onside kick. They blew who recovered OU plus the contact issue. AND they could review and still blew it. Then they screwed up the PI. So not the same situation. (1) ASU behind...OU was ahead. (2) OU/Oregon reviewable play... ASU not (3) 3blown calls in OU/Oregon ..1 in ASU game (still bad but goes to the degree of a blowing a game)

Texas will need all the help this season, esp when NU comes and lites up the horns. BTW Keller was best known at ASU for screwing a chick doggy style while doing a line of coke off her back. I bet Colt cant claim that!
