09:56 AM ET 07.12 | Rut-roh. Alabama is favored to repeat as national champion in the Press-Register's annual composite preseason college football poll from four magazines: Phil Steele, Athlon's, Sporting News and Lindy's. Alabama got three first-place votes and 98 of a possible 100 points. Oklahoma got the other first-place vote. Ohio State -- which didn't receive a single No. 1 vote but was the No. 2 pick in three of the four magazines -- narrowly trailed the Crimson Tide with 95 points and is No. 2 in the preseason compilation. It should be noted that none of the last four preseason compilations has correctly picked the eventual national champion.

Will being #1 in any preseason polls affect whether or not they win?

Hey Pops, you need to worry about the University of Thugs (UT). Bar brawls, resisting arrest, excessive drinking...all the qualities UT looks for and actively recruits.

lol @ all the hype about ohio state.. get ready to watch them crash and burn on 9/11/10

My guess is Alabama will feel the curse of being hyped all year, and being the target of every team all year. It's hard to win them all with that giant bulls-eye on your chest. Bama might be the best team in the country, but can they bring it 5-6 times against major competition? we'll see.

What? Does Getty Images only offer stock of Lucifer's Vessel in a powder blue jacket?

Not so worried, the SEC winner will win the National Champioship. That's how it works, until further notice.

Sports writers voting to determine the national champion and some people say soccer is screwed up.

Do you see any CFB poster going over to the NFL threads and posting about how "your" game is predictable, lacks the passion of a CFB game, and has fans with an EQ and IQ of around 62?

No. You don't.

So please go away.

this post made me look at the ACC OOC games. Seems pretty interesting the first couple of weeks. I completely forgot Duke plays Alabama. Miami surprised me with their start last year so I will be watching that OSU.

This Bammer BOZO forgets about one of Bammer's star players, Jimmy Johns, who was caught selling dope outside the athletic complex in Bammer town!

Besides, bammer is a habitual cheater as has been documented by the NCAA.

Hey moron, pot/kettle?

One thing I wish the press would do differently, since they insists on preseason rankings, is rank teams according to how good they think they are in relation to one another rather than who has the best chance at the NC.

Granted, Bama might be the best team in the nation, but too many years people dole out high preseason rankings to teams because they have "an easier path" to the NC game than others. That's ridiculous, because it is not an assessment of the team itself, but rather an assessment of the team + its schedule.

Having said that, I anticipate a Miami victory over tOSU...

*insist

And, to clarify, I don't necessarily think Bama has the easiest path, just that the voters take that into consideration too much (hence perennially high preseason rankings for certain teams that flop...)
