Knicks really, really wanted LeBron

07:29 AM ET 07.13 | The best laid plans for the Knicks went up in smoke. The Knicks were hoping to introduce LeBron James to the world from Times Square. It was going to be the press conference to end all press conferences. What better way to announce to the NBA that the King has indeed arrived and that the Knicks are back? ... No matter how the Knicks try to spin it, James' decision was a devastating blow for a franchise that schemed for two years to bring the league's biggest free agent to Madison Square Garden. Some Knicks executives were so sure James was coming to New York that on draft night, they were discussing college prospects in terms of how well they'd complement James.

Fork Lebron!

who didn't 'Really, Really' want LBJ? I think this story is fluff.

Swing and Miss!!! Next up, Isaiah Thomas!!!

Typical NY attitude. What they don't realize: People outside the NY area realize what a hole it is. And 100mil is 100mil regardless who signs the check.

Oh really? You sound like one of those jealous punks who can't make it here. That's ok. You're not alone.

Yupp... you got Lebron but then he's also hated in his own hometown.

In reality the Knicks never did have a chance to land Lebron.. But the Knicks are on a good path just hope they don't re hire Thomas, now that would be tragic

July 13, 2010  09:11 AM ET

Only TWO "really's"? I was thinking about 10 "really's" is more appropriate....

yup-actually the devastating blow was when miami AND Chicagocleared enough cap for 2+ FA's

Bingo! .........i think they were in the driving seat until teams went about clearing cap space and then the knicks roster didnt look to attractive

I hope we dont hear the Melo, and Cp3 thing all year...i said this would happen if they didnt get lebron

but they are still in better shape than they have been a while.....they just have to be smart....now the picks they gave away looks bad so he cant do that crap anymore

fools

They thought they could sell New York City to James, but they couldn't sell winning basketball. Yeah it's a business, and yeah LeBron could've built his empire in [probably] the world's most famous city, but the guy is a basketball player first, and the organization was more focused on enhancing his celebrity status than providing him with incentive to wanna play for the Knicks. I'm a Knicks fan, and the Knicks probably wouldn't even be in the top 10 teams I'd want to play for if I was LeBron a week ago.I think it's hilarious that we threw away the last 2 seasons to sign Stoudemire and Felton.

totally agree

QUOTE(#16):

Perhaps you're right, but somehow I don't think so. Had Riley not pulled that last second rabbit out of his hat, Lebron would've been in NY funking up my beloved city as we speak. I hate Pat Riley but I am so glad he pulled this one off.

Nah I think his next move would have been to stay home or join the Bulls since the Bulls had the best team put together. Can't say he wouldn't play under Jordan's shadow just like we thought he wouldn't play on another man's team, Wade County and be second

July 13, 2010  09:24 AM ET

and they really, really didn't get him ...

Nothing was thrown away. Things change quickly in the NBA. I think we're fine.

100 mil for amare in my opinion is to much considering he cant be insured....

felton is a decent guard but considering amare was playing with one of the best i dont know how it will work...its a definite step down from nash
