Marbury's strange YouTube Summer

Stephon Marbury gave away $4 million in June -- a remarkable and noble gesture that probably has little chance of being cited when it comes time to reflect on the major events of the NBA's off-season. But this will not be remembered as Marbury's Summer of Giving or his Summer of Spirituality. He delivered a street-preacher-style rant praising the Knicks' acquisition of Zach Randolph. He defended, or seemed to defend, Michael Vick. He declared in a blog for a New York newspaper that he would leave the Knicks in two years to play in Italy. He compared himself favorably to David Beckham, the international soccer star. Yet nothing left as indelible an imprint as a 9-minute-37-second television appearance July 1. It is still being talked about and, thanks to YouTube, drawing curious new viewers all the time.

Marbury needs to play some defense. In the Knicks games I went to last season he spent more time talking to the officials than guarding his man.

September 7, 2007  07:24 AM ET

I cant wait to see Curry and Randolph play...

You are all fools...Randolph is just going to get fatter, slower

September 7, 2007  08:28 AM ET

Man its gotten tough to be a knicks fan the last few years... listen to us, for God Sakes we have too get excited over a bum like Marbury... all that talent, such few brains, oh and he gets a 0 in class...

September 7, 2007  09:03 AM ET

Another irrelevant T&R.

September 7, 2007  09:23 AM ET

I give credit to Marbury for the charity work he does. Too bad he opens his mouth and says stupid **** and makes himself look like an idiot so often.

September 7, 2007  09:35 AM ET

What was this YouTube video abt????

September 7, 2007  09:53 AM ET

For nostalgia's sake, I would like the Knicks to be better. But that will only happen if Isiah gets his head out of his **** and see that Marbury needs to have a reduced role, as far as scoring the ball.Stop trying to make him little Isiah, he's not good enough. Focus on assists. 10 assist per, would make this team click. Good luck Knicks, from a Sixer fan.

in his defense, i would rather hang out w/ starbury than slick-rick david Beckham. also, actions speak louder than words.
For instance, Eddy Curry's rebounding ability is barely audible.

Becks is respected around the world.Marburry is laughed at around the world.Becks at least knows when to keep his mouth shut which is something marburry has never learned! Just shut it and try and win something.I'm a lakers fan but it would be good to see the knicks back up there.I'm sic of N.J. and Cleve.

Stephon needs to shut up, thank you You Tube for higlighting his incompetence.

September 7, 2007  01:16 PM ET

He's just STRANGE period...next thing he will be buying the remains of Merv Griffin at an auction and will start hosting overnighters with 4 y/o's

September 7, 2007  01:43 PM ET

Ah, You Tube.

Once on there, the sky's the limit.

You people who think the Knicks are not better will either be very surprised, or you will find something else to complain about. The truth is Isiah and Marbury can't do anything right in NY with the NY media. You fools listen and get your opinions. Marbury is over paid, but you talk about him like he does not belong in the NBA. This is a man who has career numbers like 19 and 7. The problem with Marbury is position. He is a 2 in a 1 frame. I am not comparing Marbury to Kid or Nash, where are there championship.

Another Example: Zach has averaged more point and rebounds in each year of his NBA career. Zach has been playing in the western with the best power forwards. Now Zach is in the East and minus KG, Zach today is the best 4 in the conference. Please do not tell me about Bosh or Wallace. Zach is so out of shape, he averaged 35 minutes a game. Zach averaged 45% from the field in the last 4 years. Zach is so out of shape, he was able to do this on a running western team.

Curry was a very good player before he came to the Knicks. Curry is so fat he had his best year as a pro. The media had good things to say about Curry in Chicago, but know he???s a Knick!

If the Knicks had another GM and Coach do you know what they would be saying about the young Knicks and how well they did in the summer league.

You people should watch a games before you write. Damn!

Haters beware! You could be in for a long season!

September 7, 2007  02:42 PM ET

Don't care for Marbury much as a player, but charity work DOES NEED more media attention. In a league fool of me-first people, publicizing charity work will go a long way in repairing the NBA's (and its players') image.

liontut youre my hero

September 7, 2007  03:36 PM ET

This is the same guy who once said he wanted to play in Madison Garden because of the "aroma"...what an idiot. I saw the Knicks play the C's last year in Boston and I think "Starbury" haha, took more shots than he had pases to him teammates. Not assists, passes. He would dribble down the court, call a play, dribble around for 15 seconds and then take a terrible shot that usually didn't go in. It was pretty funny.

September 7, 2007  03:37 PM ET

starbury is a fool, if you havent seen the youtube video search for marbury interview

Once again Knick fans, allow me to be the voice of reason: YOU SUCK. YOU SUCK, YOU FREAKIN' SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
