12:24 PM ET 07.13 | Jeff Gordon may have celebrated his 600th career start at Chicagoland with a top-5 finish, but one thing hung over the veteran driver's head: his 48-race winless streak, the longest of Gordon's career. Despite his distance from Victory Lane, Gordon is taking an optimistic approach to his situation. "I don't care," Gordon said. "We were talking earlier there was a point in my career where I was winning every third race and now I win three out of 100. That's just the way life is."

Only makes sense that Gordon's break his winless streak on Jimmie's number of 48

July 13, 2010  12:43 PM ET

It's all Jimmie's fault. Or Chad's. You own the car, Jeff. Fire the little punk.

July 13, 2010  12:52 PM ET

Hamlin has 5 wins, JJ has 5 wins.
Gordon has zero.
Who has more points?
Just read an article that compared racing points system to other sports.

San Diego Chargers score more points than any other team should they be crowned NFL Champs? without a playoff?

or

The Patriots lose by less than 30 points and win the superbowl?

Apples and Oranges?
Interesting read over at ESPN, Terry Blount.

or

You guys could just continue to bash whatever driver/manufactor/BrianFrance like you do everyday rather than actually having discussion about something relevant.
Like this article, the thought of an playoff elimination format in Nascar like all other sports.

It would have been interesting if Jeff and Evernham had stayed together. I think they would have rewritten a lot of NASCAR history.

July 13, 2010  01:40 PM ET

Come on Jeffie -- quit your whining ... you hired him!!

July 13, 2010  01:48 PM ET

You could discuss Reutimann winning his real first race. He was the fastest car and on the track and he did earn this win.
Or
Austin Dillion winning his 1st race driving the black no.3 truck for RCR. It was the first time a ???black??? no. 3 won any race since Dales death. He is RC's grandson so you might as well get used to the kid he will be around a while.

but what would be the fun in that,? let's just call Jeffie a whiner for the 500th time.

I have mentally handicapped brother that does not drive and his favorite sport is, you guessed it Nascar.

That is why I come here to try and find talking points since we talk on the phone 3-5 times a week and it???s up to me come up with something to say.

You guys should really think about how cool you could make this site or you could start a message board that just continues without having to wait for FN to supply subject matter to discuss Nascar topics.

I didn't come here to bash anyone. Sorry to see folks like Jackman Rob no longer visiting this site.

There are Jeff's two biggest problems...Jimmie & Chad. And since he made the pairing happen, he can't have it both ways and he knows it. Oh make no mistake, Jeff Gordon can still drive and he's got a great Crew Chief. Only problem is Jimmie has the BEST Crew Chief in NASCAR. SO Jeff is making the bucks but at the expense of his EGO!. I mean when's the last time you heard anyone complain about making the top five in six races. What a mess to be in, but like Rick said, you can only REALLY blame yourself Jeff!

We still love to hate Gordon, don't we.

July 14, 2010  03:25 PM ET

Doesn't sound like he is crying to me....he's right, it's just the way it is. The series has changed. When was the last time a Roush car went to victory lane? Biffle and Edwards aren't horrible drivers, neither is Kenseth. At one point they were racking up victories. Jeff Burton comes to mind. When was his last win? Clint Bowyer is talented. When was his last win? Jeff Gordon is still VERY competitive. Take away the Chase, and this guy has six championships. Look at the points now, and see where is sits. He will get a win this year. He could roll off a couple, possibly in the Chase. He is a championship contender again this year.

Couldn't agree more - on all counts.

Not a Gordon fan but he has lots of good races left in him. A few wins also, now, Martin is another story.

Saying Gordon has a good crew chief is like saying obama is a good president! Neither one knows his arse from a hole in the ground! Gordon's failures on the track for the past 3 seasons have been the doings of the kid he has as cc right now. He guesses and doesn't come up right. The car keeps getting worse as the race wears on! This season has been a pretty good one for Gordon as a driver except for those races where they had a yellow during the last few laps. That is where he has lost at least 3 if not more races and all because of bad decisions in the pits! Some is Gordon's responsibility, but the majority is the kid. A driver doesn't lead the most laps for the season and not have a win because he is a weak driver! It is so obvious where the problem is, but Gordon will not accept it and deal with it. I also wonder what would have happened if Everham would have stayed on. I think they would be looking at more than 8 titles as least. Without this stupid chase format Gordon would have 6 titles now and johnson would have maybe 1. If I were Gordon I would make a phone call and ask a certain person if he would come back and take on a challenge. All he can say is no, but who knows, he might say, yes. If you can't get Everham at least FIRE this kid and get someone that knows the difference between the front end of a car and the rear! You are not that old to go out and win a few more titles. Do you want that or just fade away and let johnson take the spotlight even more!

Exactly, religion and politics just get tempers flaring. At least most of the bickering here is minor and over in a day.

Yeah..but bashing Jr and Busch goes on for days ;)

July 15, 2010  08:46 PM ET

If anyone needs a good bashing, it's Jr. and Kyle. They are the only ones that seem to generate any interest here. Although the last post with Jr. failed to get very many comments.
