McDaniels honeymoon nearing end

07:24 AM ET 07.14 | Josh McDaniels is likely safe through 2011, though he might need a playoff appearance to keep his job. If he doesn't make the playoffs in either of the next two years, then I doubt the future potential of Tim Tebow can save McDaniels. This is hardly a profound statement. This is the NFL. You'd be hard-pressed to find any head coach who lasts into his fourth season without a playoff appearance, or a 10-win season, among his first three. There is one potential premise that could put McDaniels on the hot seat for this season. If the Broncos finish 7-9 or worse this year, and Shanahan's Redskins and Cutler's Bears finish 10-6 and make the playoffs, McDaniels could be in trouble.

There are those among us who never gave him the luxury of a honeymoon.
And, based on his personnel moves, rightfully so.

The Broncos only make the playoffs if San Diego trips over its own shoelaces a lot this season. That's possible, of course, but it also imples that Denver still has to do better than most people expect them to. Ed Hochuli can't throw every game their way, after all.
Being in a division with Oakland and KC can't hurt, either.

Who was it on this board who wants Josh McDaniels fired? His name slips my mind.

The honeymoon was in full swing at 6-0, but probably ended somewhere on the way to 6-4.

Me and many others. I am a long time Denver Bronco fan from 1979. I have gone through the up and downs of the team. This is a down and will be until a real coach is found.

The Chargers do have a rather amazing talent for beating themselves but it usually happens in the playoffs, leaving the Broncos out in the cold once again

The guy runs off his starting quarterback and wide reciever in year one and drafts a qb that can't throw in the first round. Yeah, honeymoon over. 6-10 this year and Pat Bowlen will be having a press conference for his new coach.

This is fantastic! The nightmare that is McDaniels is nearing its end, as much as I love this team, part of me wants to see them miss the playoffs just so this guy gets canned.

The experiement has made a dire turn for the worst. If kyle orton is the best option, in his mind, there needs to be an overhaul. I have a lot of good friends who are Bronco's fans and love the guy, I don't get it. Maybe a couple more years as Belichick's pitboss would have done him well.

Yup. Dosen't help your cause much if you get rid of ur top two and have a third on the brink.

Look, Shanahan made this team a loser because he had no concept of defense. And all you scribes expect McD to make it all nicey in an instant? Further, getting rid of Cutler was a good idea. Who wants a QB who cannot resist throwing into triple coverage, whose ego is so large that he believes such a pass is a good idea because he thinks he's that good? He's not, and the Bears will rue the day they acquired him.

I can't argue with trading Cutler, but trading him for Orton was like "upgrading" from a '77 Volare to an '81 Yugo.

I don't know if I am very please, but of the options throughout my lifetime, Jay Cutler is by far the best. Now all he needs to do is prove that he can be. 1) Some Bronco fans are happy cutler left, 2) some Bronco fans are mad that Cutler didn't replace John Elway or live up to the hype, and 3) others LOVED Cutler and now have a hate fest for him (much like the lebron situation), now which of those would you be rinkrat. I'm guessing 3!!

I'm a true fan of the Broncos as well. I'm just not sure about this Josh and some of the decision he's made. Cutler was one and then Marshall? We are pretty deep in certain areas, Quinn was a stroke of genius, Tebow - I just don't know. Line is shored up, pretty deep at running back, if the defense can stay healthy....Just don't know. Here's my biggest concern, KC and Raiders have gotten stronger this offseason, Chargers, will have a down year, their OLD. I/we can't let Oak and KC come up. If that happens, Josh is done......
