07:30 AM ET 07.14 | The 2013 All-Star Game may belong to the Citi. Bud Selig said in his annual meeting with the Baseball Writers Association of America Tuesday that the Mets "deserve" to host an All-Star Game at Citi Field. MLB is expected to award the 2013 game to the Mets. Selig would not confirm that but did say, "The Mets have built a great new ballpark and, yes, they deserve an All-Star Game."

Every city deserves to host but teams with new stadiums usually get pushed to the top of the list.

How about DC? They not only have a new Stadium, but a new team to the area, with some good young talent. One of the biggest TV markets in the nation, a ton of things to do in DC, plus if you wanna go into hosting all star games DC hasnt had one since 1962 I believe. Plus there are new stadiums all over that have not had All star games yet..philly, marlins will have one in 2012, Cincinatti hasnt had one at great american ballpark yet i dont think, plus the 100 year anniversary of Fenway (greatest Stadium in sports) in 2012. Lots of better choices then the Mets, especially when NY had one 2 years ago.

The Mets not only have the longest current drought of any team in term of hosting all star games, they have longest drought in all-star game history. Since 1966, the Atlanta Braves (1972 and 2000), Chicago White Sox (1983 and 2003), Cincinnati Reds (1970 and 1988), Cleveland Indians (1981 and 1997), Detroit Tigers (1971 and 2005), Houston Astros (1968, 1986, and 2004), Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (1967, 1989, and 2010), Milwaukee Brewers (1975 and 2002), New York Yankees (1977 and 2008), Philadelphia Phillies (1976 and 1996), Pittsburgh Pirates (1974, 1994, and 2006), San Diego Padres (1978 and 1992), San Francisco Giants (1961, 1984 and 2007), Seattle Mariners (1979 and 2001), and St. Louis Cardinals (1966 and 2009), and the Washington Senators/Texas Rangers (1969 and 1995), have all hosted the All-Star Game at least twice, during which time the New York Mets have not hosted it at all. If the 2013 All-Star game comes to Citi Field it will have been 49 years between games. Even Washington has hosted an All Star game more recently even though they only got their current team in 2005. Even had the Mets not built a new ballpark they would've deserved this game. Now that they have they jump to the front of the line.

The last All Star game for Cincy was 1988. That is a full 22 years more recent than the last time the Mets hosted the All-Star game. Further, the fact that the Yankees hosted the All-Star game in 2008 should have no bearing on the Mets. They are totally different franchises who are in the same city. People don't care about this as evidenced by the fact that the Cardinals (2009) and Royals (2012) are hosting so close together even though they are in the same state.
