Phil's final season with Lakers?

On the eve of his induction into Hall of Fame, Lakers coach Phil Jackson acknowledges this could be his last season. Looming above everything is the possibility that this will be Kobe Bryant's last season here too, assuming that last season wasn't his last here. The Lakers never considered trading Bryant, but after venting for a month he pointedly refused to take anything back and has yet to announce his final verdict on them. Jackson, whose timeline is the same as Bryant's -- now -- and who shares the same concerns, is now trying to mediate between Bryant and management.

My grandmother could have coached the teams Phil had. He got lucky with the Bulls right place right time. I admitt he does have a way to talking with players and making things right in the locker room. But come on the teams he had did not require a lot of coaching. He is over rateded and who cares if he leaves the sorry Lakers anyway.

I'm tired of the Lakers. Here's an idea since they are in Los Angeles. They should win an Emmy for best daytime drama...a Golden Globe for best comedy...and an Oscar for best non-supporting cast. And while we're at it, why don't we just write a new script and get rid of all these clowns. It's embarrassing really...I'm tired of all the whining...maybe they should get real jobs like most people, then maybe they can appreciate how much money the Buss family has given them...I mean "given them" for half-**** accomplishments...with a lot of half-**** excuses. STOP WHINING!!!

man you are in the wrong place for that hater sh-t...this is laker nation baby!...phil should just take his time and recover from his second major surgery in two years....theres no reason two rush anything.....

September 7, 2007  03:27 AM ET

Phil should stop porking Jeanie Buss and concentrate on coaching...

September 7, 2007  04:38 AM ET

Phil may leave, but that could open the door for the Lakers to make another run at Coach K in an attempt to calm Kobe.

I like the Zen Master, but there is no denying that he has enjoyed success on teams that are loaded with talent. He will most likely finish this year with the Lakers and say Sayonara to these primadonas at season's end. Who knows, we may end up seeing the Jackson bandwagon in Boston before long...well, maybe not.

September 7, 2007  06:04 AM ET

How has Jackson won with talent? He's had 5 sure-fire Hall-of-Famers play a significant role on his rosters (3 with the Bulls in Jordan, Pippen and Rodman; 2 with the Lakers in Kobe and Shaq). The rest of the guys are role players who buy into the offense and/or play defense. You can all keep swinging from Red Auerbach's nuts, even though his teams were FULL of HOFs. Jackson has done it in an era of free-agency, when attitudes and egos have taken over sports. Red was more a part of management than Phil has been(I'd LOVE to see him running the front office instead of Kupchak; Maybe when they get Coach K ; ) ), but if you are talking about coaches, he's easily one of the best ever. When Red coached, teams were still segregated as well. He's a pioneer, no doubt. But his teams had WAY more talent than Phil's have.

Say it aint so..........

September 7, 2007  08:52 AM ET

Who cares, blow the entire team up, I'm tired of all the talk!

September 7, 2007  08:58 AM ET

Lakers shld sign Houston as a backup SG......Triangle can never have enough shooters.....

September 7, 2007  09:07 AM ET

Majic B is right on here. Hey Phil, not so easy to win championships when you don't have the very best players in the NBA, huh? Your army of idiot fans who actually believe that you're the best coach ever make the rest of us laugh.

September 7, 2007  09:19 AM ET

Laker Haters, all of you.......

September 7, 2007  10:04 AM ET

Lakers need to re-evaluate in January and move Kobe if they've got no shot. Don't be chumps.

September 7, 2007  10:05 AM ET

Phil Jackson won a CBA title too. No Jordan, Kobe or Shaq on that team, I don't think.

September 7, 2007  11:10 AM ET

i'm w/ Majic. Phil is a glorified babysitter + perhaps the most overrated coach in sports history. who cares

September 7, 2007  11:41 AM ET

They brought Phil in to babysit Kobe (at $10 million a year). Why would he stay once Kobe's gone?

September 7, 2007  11:56 AM ET

PHIL is great you just hate. What a bunch of stupid comments. You can't win everytime. As a laker fan I love phil and wouldn't want any other coach over him.I'm more worried about what stup*d Mitch is gonna do with this team.

September 7, 2007  12:09 PM ET

Phil sucks just like Joe Torre. If you would put Joe Torre on the 2004 Rookie marlins team that won the world series he wouldnt have won there at all cause of the payroll which we did not have any just 15 million.

September 7, 2007  12:12 PM ET

Phil should go coach the Boston Celtics, so he can win his 10th NBA championship as head coach. Wouldn't that be funny if he broke Red Aurebach's record with his own team?
