08:22 AM ET 07.15 | While the O's are in the midst of changing managers, onetime face of the franchise Cal Ripken Jr. is thinking about how he might return to the franchise in some capacity. Nothing is definite for the Orioles legend and Baseball Hall of Famer, but Ripken said last Thursday that he has opened up discussions with Baltimore's president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail and CEO Peter Angelos, both of whom he said he had a "good rapport" with. "When I retired from baseball (in 2001), I was going to see my kids through college because I value my time with them, and I didn't have a chance to have my dad be there with me," Ripken said. Now, his daughter Rachel is a rising junior in college, and his son Ryan has just two years of high school left. "All of the sudden, you say, 'Well, if there's an entry point back, maybe we should start talking about it, " Ripken said.

The O's will NEVER be successful with Angelos at the helm. But more importantly, without a new agreement with the MLBPA that adds a true salary capping system, the Orioles and MLB as a whole will keep losing viewership/fans.

Cal is looking a lot like Vic Mackey these days...
Regardless, suit him up, it sure couldn't hurt that team...

To me he is the face of the O's and it would be nice if he was there in some capacity.

One kid in college and another about to enter college. Guess it's time to get back on the payroll.

The man is a class act. No matter what capacity he serves, he will bring instant respect to the program.

He's going to be running around Camden Yards with light bulbs in his mouth to entertain the kids.

angelos is the crux of the problem. unfortunately i don't think cal can be much help.

Cal should probably stay away, but that is his team, Angelos will only embarass him.

I think that's a pretty good analysis.

Unless he is gonna pick up a bat there is a large chance that all he ends up doing is hurting his legacy.A man of his stature would likely be welcome into the front offices of many 'winning" franchises.

Didn't Angelos tell Ripken off at one point after his retirement?
