07:47 AM ET 07.16 | After taking Harvey Unga in Thursday's supplemental draft, the Bears have quite the crowd challenging for roster spots, a cast that includes Matt Forte, Chester Taylor, Kahlil Bell, Garrett Wolfe and Brandon Minor. Knowing all those players were already in Chicago, Unga didn't expect the Bears to pick him. "To be honest, I was surprised," Unga told the Chicago Sun-Times. "They're stacked up with running backs right now. They don't need another back. I'm just going to come in there and bust my butt and make the best of the situation. I told them this is something they won't regret and I'm a man of my word." That crowded running back depth chart means Unga is no lock to make the 53-man roster.

Way to throw around those draft picks. I'm not sure what the Bears are trying to accomplish the last couple years.

Ah.. the supplementary draft, The red-headed stepchild of the NFL Draft.

Unga? Unga bunga?

I was thinking the same thing! "Unga no lock". Unga no lock door. Unga house robbed.

The Bears need a goal line runner I hope this guy fits the bill.

July 16, 2010  09:16 AM ET

Is it going to be like this until Sept? The scam ads are out-numbering the legit comments.

July 16, 2010  09:22 AM ET

Just put all those backs on the field at once. Maybe they'll block for each other better than that offensive line would.

Neither are the Bears!!

"They're stacked up with running backs right now.'

If Cutler was my qb I too would be stocking up on running backs.

I think it was a great pick. Why? It was a seventh round pick and there were no seventh round picks of his value in this, or any , draft. And seventh rounders don't get paid squat.
The only other team to use a pick was the Cowboys. They took a DE in the seventh round.

UNGA should have been picked much higher. Some teams missed out on a very good prospect.
He is the leading rusher in BYU history and the only reason he dropped out of school last year was because he got his girlfriend pregnant. They are soon to be married.

A little history:
The worst supplemental draft pick was Dave Brown, taken in the first round by the New York Giants.

July 16, 2010  11:09 AM ET

Any time you can get a 3rd round talent or better for a 7th round pick it's a steal. With his abilities he would have gotten picked in at latest in the 3rd round next year with another year played. Plus we need to improve our short yardage game so much it isn't funny. If he can do that we would have won at least 2 games we lost last year. Jay Cutler won't be forced to throw as much inside the 20 yard line where he threw sooooo many ints it wasn't even funny. Good pick Bears!!!

they were good enough last year to finish 29'th out of 32 teams in rushing yards.

Cowboy fans might argue that......Steve Walsh with first rounder in 1989...same year they already drafted Troy Aikman.

ugh...Chicago has a less than stellar running back corps. Unga should have a shot at the 3 spot at least. He's a smart runner and has decent size/speed. Given his numbers I'm surprised that he got drafted so late.

7th round picks of note: Shannon Sharpe, T.J. Houshmanzadeh, Marquis Colston (sp?), & Matt Cassell. To say "no..value...this, or any draft" including this one which would exclide your "great pick" IMO is abit strong from a 50 year fan. I am a Lions fan though so I don't know the value of draft picks...yet.
