Oregon programs at crossroads?

10:23 AM ET 07.16 | Oregon will attempt to right its ship while also building programs as bold as its facilities. Oregon has some of the most beautiful, state-of-the-art athletic facilities in the country, partially funded by famously rich alum Phil Knight, co-founder and chairman of Nike. Yet its offices were filled with controversy earlier this year over the messy departure of former athletics director Mike Bellotti. The position remained empty until Thursday, when the school hired Rob Mullens, 41, formerly a deputy athletics director at Kentucky. Mullens will earn $450,000 a year, plus bonuses, for at least three years. ... So, what kind of person was University of Oregon President Richard Lariviere looking for in his search for a new athletics director? "Someone," Lariviere said before hiring Mullens, "who can walk on water, turn water into wine, balance a $70 million budget and make me look good in the process."

I'm sure Rob Mullens is well aware of that fact.

Mullens doesn't mind working for a Dick. It's his first AD gig. Nice.

Is Oregon scheduled to play Tennessee? Could both teams get enough players with a Saturday work release for the game to happen?

Yup, second game of the season. It'll probably be like the Longest Yard and they'll play in the prison rec yard.

Phil Knight is the de facto Oregon AD.

Oh, sure, I know they have a real AD...but you think he makes any major moves before he checks with Uncle Phil?
