10:11 AM ET 07.18 | Nobody is really sure what happened when former LSU athlete and current New York Giants safety Chad Jones got in a single-vehicle accident June 25 on North Carrollton Avenue -- not even the two passengers with him. Jones was cited for careless operation of a vehicle, and the investigation is closed, according to the report. Jones' fiancee, Jade Newman, signed the citation for Jones.

LSU athlete that can't sign his own name? How odd?
Canuck eh?

Waste of a 3rd round pick. Hopefully the guy can recover from his injuries and make something of his football career.

His injuries were so severe that he was at risk of losing part of his leg or a foot. He had been in intensive care for quite some time. I'm no rocket scientist, but something tells me his fiancee had to sign on his behalf due to him being in intensive care.

Just_Mike you are not a rocket scientist? You are kidding right? Apparently you are not a comedian either??? nor do you get a joke when one is made.

Yeah I guess I just don't get the humor in making fun of a young man who almost lost his foot in a car accident.

So nobody knows what happened... and the case is closed? WTF?! This doesn't sound right.

I would like to know specifically what happened to make them cite Jones for Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

Just a hunch, but maybe the case is closed because there really was no other reason for the accident other than careless driving?
According to the police report and other statements there was no sign of him being DUI. There was also no sign that any other vehicle was involved or that there was any tampering with the car.
Also the only one who got seriously injured was Jones himself, the other two people in the car sustained only minor injuries and left the hospital after receiving little treatment and some check-ups.
Sometimes an accident is just that: An accident.

Sounds plausible. I don't wish the guy any harm, but if you play with fire, you'll get burned.

Was thinking the same myself. BJ's can be very distracting.

Very good point. Sometimes an accident is only an accident. However, we're dealing with NFL players. It just seems that there are too many examples of goofballs in the league for me to assume that it's just an accident.

Never, ever, ever use that reference again. You just sent shivers down the spine of thousands innocent men. If they all read it at once, you could cause earth quakes and catastrophic tsunami's around the world.

It's a great movie! My wife and I bought our first house the same way Robin Williams' character did!

I heard early on that one wheel of the SUV got caught in the space between the road and the rail of a trolly car or something like that. Guy over-corrects to get the wheel out of the track and the car gets out of control. Sounds plausible to me and that is just an unfortunate accident.

If I'm not wrong, and I've seen this in the past, once a citation is given and signed no other charges can be brought involving this incident. That was probably the smartest thing she could have done.

The Giants do not believe he was doing anything wrong when it happened. They are sticking by him and his hospital bills and rehab.
They could have waived him and saved some money. Hard to believe he will ever be 100% again. He was a MLB prospect, that may be where he ends up someday.
