NCAA's least likable conference

09:29 AM ET 07.19 | Do you hate the SEC? The SEC has become the New York Yankees. It's LeBron James joining Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. It's Duke basketball. It's the Dallas Cowboys. It's the conference with the best players, best coaches, most passionate fans and most money to throw around. In other words, it's the conference everyone outside the SEC loves to hate. And there's the twist to this story that's still being written. It's a conference, not a team, that's dominating a sport. Before our eyes, the SEC is making us reconsider how we define dynasties in college athletics. In the process, it's forcing us to ask whether such dominance by one conference could be detrimental for an entire sport.

Not sure how an entire division can be paralleled to specific teams.
Why the Dallas Cowboys, a team that hadn't won a playoff game since 96, was mentioned with teams that are disliked for their success, is beyond me.

Ha Ha Ha... The Yankees... the best team money can buy? I don't think that I'd want that analogy attached to a conference... I' also love to see the requisite admission standards at those schools as well...

No, but do not underestimate the ambitions of Lucifer's Vessel, nor the extent to which he'll go to achieve his ends.

It will be funny to read the posts of the people that repeatedly say that the SEC gets preferential treatment in the media, polls, and recruiting services claim that they are not just jealous haters.
While the SEC is on top for now it will not last forever. These things go in cycles. I would personally prefer to have more equality amongst the conferences and their power. It just makes things more exciting.
And last but not least:
<chanting> SEC...SEC...SEC

Didn't Dallas win a playoff game last year? What is amazing is year after year the Cowboys still sell the most memorabilia. Like the Yankees they are loved around the globe. There is a lot of truth to that. Everyone hates Goliath.

John Solomon of the Birmingham News. He's trying to stir things up with the comparisons to the Yanks and other recent headline grabbers generating despite amongst the common folk. He's trying to infuse his prose with the style he believes will garner him notice and propel him to fortune.
Given your posts of late, you should identify with John.
In my humble opinion, John's not going to achieve noteriety and mass syndication. He won't imprint himself upon this span of sports history. He will toil away, largely unrecognized, and when he's dead and gone, no one outside of his family and friends will remember him. In a couple of generations, he'll be nothing more than an entry in a geneological chart.

The Cowboys noteriety is attributable in part to their cheerleaders and their groundbreaking outfits.

Tin I am a little unclear. Can you explain how you feel about John Solomon?

I understand the hatred of the Yankees but that is the name of the game in MLB.

Very little. Every team in every league has cheerleaders.

I think the thing that makes the SEC easily the least-likable conference in college is that if you don't walk around screaming about how wonderful they are, someone affiliated with the SEC will be MORE than happy to tell you all about the unceasing greatness. I think they all took Pete Carroll's class on humility.

I saw Mr. Solomon once. He has a big slot in his back, so SEC officials/coaches can stick their hands in there and make his mouth move and his hands type. There is no more embarrassing shill in "journalism." Perhaps they should issue him a skirt and some pom-pons.

The "SEC! SEC! SEC!" chant doesn't help the conference rep.

"It's a conference, not a team, that's dominating a sport". This article is so full of "****!!!. I agree in football, but not ALL sports. That title belongs to the "Conference of Champions".

As a society, we just suck at being a fan of something great and not taking it over the top and being pr1ck$ about it. If you are on top, you gloat, and everyone else hates you partially because they want to be on top, but also because your being an arrogant a$$.

Agreed. SEC fans need to eat some humble pie. Problem is, nobody is serving it up yet. So until then, you'll probably have to hear a little bit more of that obnoxious chant. :(
