10:03 AM ET 07.19 | Did LeBron duck NYC? Ron Artest hinted at what a lot of New Yorkers already felt about LeBron James -- he wanted to avoid the pressure of playing in the Big Apple. "I don't think it means anything in particular (that James didn't sign with the Knicks), but if you want some pressure, come to New York," said Artest, who made an appearance at the West 4th St. basketball court in Manhattan Friday. "I don't know what he was thinking. ... He had a different plan. You don't know if he was thinking weather, team, players, friends. But if you want some pressure, come to New York." Artest added that Amar'e Stoudemire should be given credit. "The $100 million helps, but he still wanted to come here," said Artest, referring to Stoudemire's five-year deal with the Knicks. "He must be special to want to come to New York."

LeBron doesn't handle pressure well, we've all seen that in the playoffs the past couple of seasons.

He tucked his tail between his legs and ran off to hide behind Wade and Bosh. No way LeBron could've handled the pressure of playing in New York.

yea, he has...but people can say what they want....Ron earned...from playing great D, and even making timely plays, not to mention not flipping out and killing anyone....he even scored a little when they needed him the most...

There was a LOT of pressure on him, since he was the only new addition to a championship team....he didnt fold

Ron Ron - "If you want pressure, come to New York"

Actual translation = Nothing a little Hennessey and some herbal essence at halftime couldn't cure...

Bullsh!t! I wonder did anyone think to ask Ron, when he came up with this brilliant deduction. Apparently this came to mind on his way to the podium. If Zoo York had so much to offer, how did he end up in LA?

So you jumped on Kobe's coattails and now you have the right to talk about players that are better then you will ever be? funny how that works. And Amare come for one reason... the money, no one else was giving him 100 million.

Nah.. Walsh didn't even bother to call Ron when he was a free agent; same for Harrington. Given they are local guys they felt slighted by that. Artest was talking like a homer not an NBA player and I did chastize him for taking less money to suck up to Kobe but what Lebron did surpasses every bit of imagination.

For someone blessed with so much talent and physical ability the least y'd expect is such a punk move. Oh well. Mother's play such a critical role to a child's upbringing. Like Jordan said it didn't even cross his mind to team up with Bird and Magic... he wants to beat them. That's how a normal kid should act. Lebron's mum really messed him up. No wonder he's sleeping with Delonte... yikes.

This from a guy who signed with LA to win a ring. How about you thought about that and signed with the Knicks when they were down? Oh left Houston for LA?

He is a nice guy. He is crazy no doubt but he does have a good heart.
LeChoke wants no pressure, no wonder he is in Miami.

Well the reason they wasn't contacted because they wanted to sign Lebron and possibly 2 other max players. I am sure the Knicks and other teams would have worked on signing other players if they knew from the start that Lebron wasn't coming.

Freedom of speech, baby. Freedom of speech.

As for his ring, there was tremendous pressure on Artest to help bring home another title. If the Lakers failed, it would have all been on him.
