Appalachian State's momentous win in Ann Arbor would go on to reverberate around the country all week. All the attention it drew -- including the cover of Sports Illustrated, front-page articles in the New York Times and USA Today, appearances on ESPN and an upcoming "reality special" on Fox SportSouth -- gave the school publicity no amount of money can buy. Hits on Appalachian State's school's Web site quadrupled to 124,669 by Tuesday. School spokesperson Jane Nicholson said inquiries from prospective students as far away as California and Texas have increased. Nearly $100,000 worth of Appalachian merchandise was sold on Sunday and Monday from the school's University Bookstore, according to Lorraine Childers, the store's assistant director for merchandising. Among the hottest spots for merchandise: Columbus, Ohio, home of Michigan rival Ohio State.

Michigan just sucks. They are losing big again this week. This season for Michigan will be referred to in the future as the Jimmy Harbaugh curse.

MSU time this year

September 9, 2007  05:18 AM ET

Why was this considered an "upset" in the first place? The whole AP rating system is retarded and we are seeing that this year more than ever. Obviously the ratings are completely wrong when a team that was ranked fifth gets beat by 32 to an unranked team. All the "ranked" teams are losing. Michigan got whooped again by the Ducks. They need to go to a simple playoff system. All the bowls are there for is the money they generate. It would be a hell of a playoff watching Nebraska vs LSC and the Ducks vs USC. That's real football there.

September 9, 2007  05:23 AM ET

Appalachian State could beat Nebraska who wouldnt be able to outscore them.
