Byrd, Telemaque ready to lead Miami

07:53 AM ET 07.22 | Do the Hurricanes have another Reggie Wayne on their hands? When Arthur Brown, Vaughn Telemaque and LaRon Byrd arrived at the University of Miami in 2008, they were considered the three most ballyhooed out-of-state players in a Hurricanes recruiting class that was ranked No. 1 in the nation by ESPN and dominated by South Florida prospects. Two years later, Brown -- the most touted of the three -- is gone after transferring to Kansas State this year. Telemaque and Byrd have become starters, but expectations for both go well beyond that. Indianapolis Colts receiver Reggie Wayne said Byrd has more skills than Plaxico Burress. UM coaches believe Telemaque could become the type of high-impact play-making safety this defense craves. "I want people to list my name with the Reggie Waynes and the top receivers that have played here," Byrd said.

When I glanced at the FN snipet above I thought this guy's nickname should be BigHead Byrd but, after reading the Miami Herald article, it looks like he has his head on straight.
"I really criticized myself a lot last year, ... I looked at every game we played. A lot of the mistakes I made I went back and corrected this summer -- from releases to having quicker feet off the line of scrimmage, sinking my hips deeper into the route ... (I asked coaches to) find a flaw in me. I want criticism. ... As freshmen, everybody was the go-to guy from their high school program, ... But once coach Shannon installed in our minds that this is a team game -- that it's not about the Rivals rankings -- we got a good grasp of that.''

#47 is an odd number for a Receiver.
Hell, #47 is a prime number, *and* it's an odd number for a WR.

i don't know if it's because I'm around so many SEC fans and am turning into a conference homer, but I hope Miami tears OSU a new one

Dunno if that statement is true or not...I will give his recruiting credit though...
The last 2 classes have been very good with this past offseason ranked amongst the best in the country...
I think Miami is turning the corner and their new offensive system in place last season showed that...
Do not forget, Randy took over after Larry Coker belly flopped in 2006...so, Randy already had a program on the downslide...

Firearms is a gimme. A ten-year-old with a BB gun has more gun sense than Plax-ee-co.

Wisco sucks, and they sure as hell looked winded when my 'Noles - after a mediocre season for us - ran by, over, and around the Big Bad Badgers all night long. The Big Mathematically Impaired Ten has two really good teams right now. Wisconsin is not one of them, and OSU has a reputation for choking of late.

LOL!
That still doesn't ring a bell at all.
Kudos to the 'Canes for not retiring numbers.

Wish UF would have played the 'Canes back then. Can you imagine the one-liners that SOS would have come up with for THAT bunch?! I mean, to some people we will forever be "Free Shoes University" and that happened 17 years ago!

Meh. I can't stand people that mock the "speed factor," like it doesn't matter. Yes, NOW teams like OSU recruit speed at all positions, but this is a relatively recent phenomenon. And WHY the big change from "3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust?" Because as recently as the late 90's, teams from the South, and from the state of Florida in particular, were thoroughly embarrassing their big, tough, lumbering hulks by running around them on offense, and running them down on defense.
Speed kills, and everyone knows it...NOW. But it all started at Miami, and that's a fact.
